Gravel/touring road questions and link ups

I’ll have to get a crew together to do this ride - after pimping it here, I spoke to my fiancée and realised that we were meeting with her priest last sat, and attending Catholic marriage class this Sunday.
>.<

Gippy Gold this weekend… with the 200km option almost sold out (~70 riders), and the 100km option at ~60 riders it seems like we are approaching #peakgravel

^ lung healed (enough) yet tom.? heh

I think so… wanna do the hunna?

Also, whilst in hospital I mostly spent my time mapping out potential rides for 2015.

The ride I wanna do next is a sub-24 Wood’s Point double century via Acheron Way -> Little River rd -> Blue Range rd -> Jerusalem Creek Track -> Mansfield - Woods Point rd -> Warburton - Woods Point rd

320km + 160km total commute stages. Looking to do late next month :0

What resources are people using to plan trips/routes. Gmaps is pretty useless.

Map my Ride is ok, ridewithgps or bikeroutetoaster.

staff @ Commuter Cycles, and the extended bike family of there

The Strava website has a route builder now. And you can search for rides by region/location and then build a route from a ride someone else has logged.

boring, cos then you know the road actually goes somewhere!

I created a road segment that at first glance is inaccessible, but can be beaten through if you have the tenacity. 2’ deep wheel ruts and handlebar-height grass. Haven’t seen any other attempts on it yet.

^Truth.

(Knowing you’re going somewhere is good for solo rides though. And my gf appreciates a link to where I’m riding and where to search for me if I don’t come home… (the pub, amirite!!!)).

yeah, I was mostly tongue in cheek

I’ve posted a ride report with more photos for day 2 of Stathbogie Slider ride for those interested. After 2 good days with a variety of riders and bikes and think it’s a route to put on your lists

Another vote for Bike Route toaster from me - although it’s a bit hard to work out how to use it, and it seems to disappear off the net every now and then.

But it’s good for back roads and tracks that are too small for google maps to register - and you can even manually create a route over a contour map where there isn’t even a track - and then download a gpx file to load onto your ride navigator.

Wow man, this looks rad.

yeah, more ride reports need landscape paintings.

Sweet. Was checking out Streeton’s Golden Summer Eaglemont very recently at the NGA. He definitely got Aus.

Perfect! That’s exactly what I was hoping to find. Thanks!

Anyone got a cue sheet for me? I’ve emailed, but no response.
