H Plus Son 42mm aluminium rims

i think i’ve decided i must have a set of these rims:

they are made by H Plus Son, and come in either their ‘formation face’ profile (no braking surface, see diagram below), and the ‘SL42’ profile which has a braking surface. for mine, the formation face is supreme! some specs from their site:

Formation Face and SL42
Profile height is 42mm
Weight is 580 grams (± 15 grams)
Rim sizes are 700c and 650c
700c available in 32 and 36 hole (24 and 28 hole in the pipeline)
650c available in 32 hole
Both rims are made of G609 aluminium alloy

Current available colors
Anodized in black, silver and gold
Powder Coated in white

as for cost , well the formation face is US$85, SL42 US$80, and shipping is US$30 for a single rim, or US$50 for a pair.

so… who’s interested in a group buy? i’ve made some inquiries and for orders of 10-20 rims, they will do them for US$70 each (and perhaps can haggle further  ). shipping costs won’t change unfortunately (for >1, US$25 each), however this means we can probably get them shipped directly to each participant in any potential GB.

They do have very thin sidewall…that’s why they are lighter or same weight as Deep V even with 42mm profiles.

Not sure if anyone is meant to know this yet cause it hasn’t been officially announced yet but… Velocity is bringing out a new rim soon called the B43. 43 because that’s how deep the profile of the rim is going to be. I know they’ve done a few prototypes and the extrusion has been made but not sure of a release date yet. mmmmm local produce.

hmm, they look ok,

these are better:

user hotwls has a set. they look really good, but yeh, that pic of the rim blowout would concern me.

sort of tempted…maybe I’ll get my Shamals powdercoated white instead? :-o

i’d rather ride with the constant thread of rim explosion then be seen riding a measly 40mm profile rim.

can you link me to that thread?

which one? the one from the OP?:

Douche

sez the d00d with the rear disc and the hed3

lol, I don’t see the point in your argument. If my wheels were dangerous and could explode at any time from tyre pressure then it may make sense. It’s not about ‘rim depth’, it’s about sacraficing a look for safety.

still, point taken.

do you really think i’m being serious?
or are you just signing off?

maybe his sarcasm detector is faulty…

Nah…he’s just annoyed that 80% of people don’t care what colour he paints his trispoke

well and truly it would seem…

as for the rim’s exploding thing, well for myself i’m not too concerned. there’s a fair few of these rims about, and a single failure doesn’t condemn the whole lot IMHO. they are relatively light for what they are, so prob not the best choice if you’re going to ride ‘heavy’ on them.

i will certainly settle for some shamals if someone wants to throw some this way!

I got some from Brick Lane Bikes in London before I came back to Sydney . I have a machined on the front & a formation face on the rear . They ride fine & suit my wide alloy Dolan frame . They were from the first experimental batch though I havent had any unexpected rim blowouts yet , only tubes… anyway here is a pic

Oh yeah Heavymetal I’ll hopefully be up for Saturdays ride to give you your light back . Thanks
