nah I can’t wait till they cause me grief and I rip them about selling goods that aren’t of merchantable quality - love a good opportunity to barney
Ok, so after a year of using the MS1s everyday at work, ive decided i do indeed need something closed. Basically i wanted something that sounded similar to the alessandros, but closed. My choices were the below
Beyer Dt250 - $350
Senn HD25ii - $299
Aiaiai TMA-1 - $270
Aud Tech ESW9 - $270
Shure 840 $200
Fanny Wang - $190
Fischer Audio FA-003 - $190
Brainwavz HM5 – $150
Audio Tech M50 - $170
Brainwavz HM3 - $75
Fischer Audio FA-004 - $79
Wasnt able to test them all, but was able to quickly audition the DT250s, ESW9s, 840s, M50s and HM3s. The DT250s were head shoulders above rest, basically exactly what i was looking for, but a little over my budget. Followed by the ESW9s and 840s, essentially a step down in everyway, then tried the M50s and HM3s. M50s were very comfy, plenty of bass, but the bass overpower the mids a little and made it sound a little muddy. The HM3s were, bang for buck, a stand out. Good treble, mids, tight bass. Not as punchy or deep as the M50s, but thats how i like it, a little more clearer mids and highs, but not lacking in bass either.
Now the HM3s and Fischer Audio FA-004s are arguably the same headphone, i kinda liked the look of the Fa-004s and for the extra $4 i went with them. Still pretty keen on the HM5s/FA-003s. They look more comfier, and if there smaller siblings are anything to go by, should deliver even bettr bang for buck. Just waiting on Headphonics here in perth to stock them.
Some snaps
I’ve been looking for a decent pair for a while after my disappointment with wireless Sennheisers I bought. Constant ticking and they cause pain after about an hour due to the squashing of the ears. Decided not to settle for some and actually research a little. Came across these which I am currently saving for… Q 701 - AKG shop
Watched and read some great reviews on them, and you can pick them up for <300 on eBay. Does anyone have any experience with AKGs?
i have these for work
pretty happy with them
Portable use or at home? might need some extra help to power those bigboys.
noice, do you ride with them?
nah, don’t ride. they block out too much noise.
Mostly use at home/office. Will need a separate amp to get the most out of them, but they are useable in portable devices. Prepare to put the volume on full though.
Check these guys out for prices, Headphonic | Australian Headphone Specialists: Buy Etymotic, Alessandro, Audio Technica, Ultimate Ears, Talisman, Meier Audio and more
Slightly more than eBay but the service is meant to be great and can’t argue with free delivery. Those AKG Q701’s have a weird impedance, but that shouldn’t matter to much. I would get a set of those in a flash once my Sennheisers die, which could be any day now.
+1 on headphonics, good guys, they have a forum too if you need any help.
They also run a 20 day trial, if you aint happy, return for a store credit, pretty good.
These came in earlier in the week, have been using them everyday since. Absolutely love them! After taking a gamble on the FA004s, and very happy with the sonics, i took a punt on the FA003s. Just another level up on everything, treble, clarity, mids are clear and smooth. Bass, tight, punchy, and with a little more kick, this could be because the isolation is better with the thicker pads and better fit, but very comfortable. Also alot lighter then it looks, so you dont really feel it on your head, although at times, out the corner of my eye i can see them stick out the sids of my head…hahah…
Anyway, i like pics.
This guy, sells his mcbain and is now hoarding headphones lol
Thread digging…
I need new in-ear headphones.
I had some of these that I liked enough (Audio-Technica ATH-ANC3 review: Audio-Technica ATH-ANC3 - CNET)
They’re dead now.
Active noise-cancelling would be great but not necessary, aiming for under US$100.
Any thoughts?
Double-Dig, and hoping for more responses than Jimmy Cricket got…
my Grado SR60’s are on their way out, cable is giving up. need something to replace them with.
only use is permanently plugged into my work PC.
open style - need to be able to hear phones, respond to colleagues when they’re seeking assistance.
$150 or so is the budget.
Grado sr125e on Mass Drop for US$158
get them recabled?
otherwise i highly recommend the MS1s
How do your colleagues cope with the open style headphones and the noise leak from them, or are they ok with your choice in music?
aside from not wanting to be a total prick/THAT GUY, i run them at a level so i can talk to the whole team (furthest away is 10 meters or so) using my inside voice without removing them.
normal levels are 10% PC master volume, 50% youtube/soundcloud for music.
20% PC master, 100% whateverplayer for podcast/spokenword items.
My boy got a bunch of gift cards for his birthday, turning 9 i tried to steer him away from toys.
We ended up grabbing some wireless headphones from JB-HiFi. at $50 these were pretty damn good.
