Heavymetal's commuter bike manifesto

This is indeed the wrong thread. And get a better lock.

Dude - totally in the wrong thread. No need to be bashful just start a thread. All gotta start somewhere and not everyone on here rides A MASHxcollabro / NJS / Whatevs Low-Pro anyways (Holds up hand). Oh and FWIW this is a forum so you know Haters Gonna Hate - what can you do?

+1 for getting better lock

I’ve already had pm’s questioning why I questioned his lock choice. Fucken industrial grade butter strength cable locks totally work.

I like the brown rolls.

It’s funny, but at Pushies you could tell the Melb peep’s bikes by their d-locks.
Ours were token at best.

Those cables locks are about as good as a piece of thick rope tied by a scout with all the badges

Finally finished… My do-everything Gravel Grinder/Commuter/Baby-Hauler.

Pretty darn happy with it. Rides really nice, which is no great surprise considering how popular a bike the CrossCheck is. I should also say that I was pleasantly surprised with how light it has ended up being, in spite of being steel and having a .5kg saddle on it. First trip out will be Donna Buang with Shakes tomorrow - sounds like we might see some snow!

Looks mean.

But a good mean.

Could do with a bright pink bottle… ;]

You reckon? Maybe it’d be better suited to a red Kumo - I hear that pink and red is the done thing

hey sime, or anyone else for that matter, are those axle stays a mod to the front rack or something you can buy? if so, whats the rack? cheers

Probably not worth doing a whole “post your ride” post so I’ll put it up here. I finished building up my Nature Boy Zona ltd today.
It’s going to be my commuter/possibly cx if I ever try racing.

Not quite finished, still need a thomson x4 and to angle those levers up/ re wrap the bars.

If? The state champs are on in 3 weeks. Race B grade! Also, probably belongs in the CX bike thread!

What length angle X4? I have a 100mm black X4, think it’s about 6º, can’t remember.

They’re the stays that come with the Sunlite baskets, heaps better than Wald.

I have no CX racing experience, doubt I could jump straight in to B!

Also that sounds like exactly what I need Blakey, will PM you.

you race track but…

the difference is you can pass on the left and you can eat/drink mid-race.

B is everyone that has a Cx to race (except A graders), so its pretty varied. . .

Might try and get the weekend off work then (very unlikely). Will definitely be trying to find some fun trails around Melbourne though.

You will cream half of B grade. No question.

It’s not club level track/road B. The only grade below it is open (i.e. MTBs). Go practice some dismounts / remounts in the park and you’re golden.

What Blakey said. I raced B Grade in Adelaide. Had no racing experience, and I’m not quick by any means. Went out with some other dudes that have raced, rode some trails and parts of the course(s), practiced my dismounts / remounts and had a blast. Managed to finish three races and not get pulled on any of them. Will definitely race next season.

If you know how to ride a bike, know how to handle said bike in tight situations and on different surfaces, you’ll nail it, plus you have the speed and stamina from racing track.

Oh, swap your cleats around to “amateur” from “professional” and dismounts are easier. And watch some YouTube clips showing dismounts.

nice one, cheers.
