If you like this saddle you'll like...

So I’ve been using the San Marco Rolls for a number of years now- I really like it. The only thing is it’s kinda clunky and heavy though, although I understand comfort is probably more important.
I was wondering whether there is a similar shaped saddle to the Rolls, but in a more contemporary (lighter) style?
Ideally someone who has used the Rolls might be able to chime in and comment…

Thanks

Since it was originally my Rolls… I can suggest the Regal or Concor (originals, not re-issues). IMO, they fit similar, with a bit more curve in them. I’ve also tried the Selle Italia SLK & XR, which have a ‘flatter’ feel, but are still ok. The XR is (IMO again) a fantastic saddle for the price!

I’m no expert and this is just my opinion.

Why do you need a change? The NZ track team use them on their BT’s.

I ride on more than just a velodrome.
But fair call- even Ryan Bayley used them too.

Just want lightness maaaannn

I have a nice selle italia Blaze which I reccomend.

I’m sort of looking for a comparison to the Rolls since it fits me well. I have used many Selle Italia saddles which have just felt wrong.

Oh yeah, selle italia =/= San marco.
My bad yo

If you dare venture out of the inner city, you’re welcome to borrow one or two to try. Just let me know.

Wiggle | Fizik Aliante Gamma XM Saddle with K:IUM Rails Performance Saddles

this appears to be a similar shape, and benzy has one and rates it highly…

I think I recall saying this before here but:

Anna Meares rides a Rolls

Robbie McEwen rides a Regal

stand with your back to a mirror and look behind you - which of those arses does yours most look like? Choose saddle accordingly. :stuck_out_tongue:

(mine looks more like Anna’s than Robbie’s but I can’t stand riding a rolls, so this method might be flawed)

Concor Light (190gms) is probably what you’re after. A bit narrower but I think that the Rolls with its curved top is really a lot narrower in feel than it appears. Or as CC says you could go with one of the newer Regals. All the modern shapes are flatter across the top, logic being that they’re more comfortable on your sit bones. Heaps of people rate the Fizik Arione as a very comfortable road saddle and this is flat as a pancake.

As for the NZ track team riding Rolls, okay, yes, but look what part of the saddle that they ride on. Totally different on the road where you spend most of the time on the back half of it.

With the Fizik Aliante Gamma at 260gms, you may as well stick with the Ti version of the Rolls, its only 20gms more. Too much unnecessary plastic in either if you ask me.

Have you ridden a Arione? If you haven’t, I would see if you can borrow one for a day and see how it goes.

There is also a Rolls Due, which is a slimmer version of the Rolls.

Fizik Arione great saddle I got on with it great if you buy from a lbs bigger stores have test saddles in the fizik range. Just don’t do the dog act and test it try a few then buy on line.

Thanks for your thoughts DICE (and nexus!)

I haven’t really tried an Arione for a long period. Good idea I might try one… So what is the weight of these?

About 240gm. My Concor Ti is 174gm.

official weight is 220gms, but seem lighter than that to me. Its lighter then a Rolls in any case.

My Rolls Ti is something like 285gr

My 5 SLR135’s weigh on average 143 grams. My Brooks swift weighs 500 grams.
I love both types, go figure.

I’ve ridden a Rolls for a couple of years (fixed street and briefly on the track)
I found It great for the track as it feels really strong under you during big efforts, on the road I found it great for shorter rides (sub 50k’s) but I was finding myself getting numb in the dick after a long day.

Recently I’ve found the Specialized Avatar to be a thing of magic… It feels as though Scarlett Johannson has kissed her palm and placed it out above your seatpost for you to gently caress your butt/gooch…
Zero numbness due to cut out and available in 3 widths, go into your local specialized dealer to test ride one.
