Name: Jimmy
Location: Boston (3.5 years now…probably heading to the west coast in about a year) (Melbourne before that)
Bike: Kona Paddywagon SS, Specialized AWOL, '91 Somec Roadie w 10sp Record, Beat-up Somec single speed
Beard: I once grew facial hair for a full couple of months and managed to almost have a passable goatie. (I did not want one…I don’t grow it out anymore)
ETC: wanting more time to play records, garden, build things, and look for bears
shit, you been in Boston that long?!
I initially read this as ‘Brian Bourke’ track bike. That would’ve been awesome. #WAthing
Name: Daniel
Location: Sydney
Bikes: Wilier Triestina roadie, Pinarello Prestige roadie, Dave Lloyd roadie, Kuwahara roadie, Kuwahara (Apollo branded) roadie Ken Evans track, Kuwahara Track, Peugeot roadie (convert to FIXIE)
Beard: Stubble (Only 16, wait till I’m older and you’ll be calling me Santa)
Etc: Ride occasionally every second day, very picky about which bike to choose out of the many… And many more to come.
^^^no i fucked up my math. by about a year. it’s been 2 years 9 months. ha.
Yo, Tom, Melb. ride a focale 44 if I’m going fixed. Race a little, building up a track bike atm to get back into track stuff. Also road and crits.
Name: Jason
Location: Sydney (West is best, i’m in Pendle Hill just west of Parramatta)
Bikes: Focus Planet (commuter), Fuji MTB, + a number of unfinished builds/frames etc nothing special
Beard: If physical description, then significant bits missing is probably accurate. If state of mind, then significant bits missing is probably accurate
Etc: currently doing the cliched “convert a 80’s 10sp frame to fixie/SS” thing. Which is what brought me here, to glean knowledge from those who no better than me. Frame is a Pascoe (nothing special but there is not a lot around, he was a Sydney based frame builder during the late 70’s and 80s) Thought i should introduce myself as i’ve been lurking here reading but this is my first contribution
Parents: Wealthy.
Hills crue: there are a few of us around the Baulkho/Kellyville/Quakers Hill area. I think there’s a fixed ride in parramatta but I’ve never been. We do the occasional road ride and every now and then hit the gravel out past wiseman’s.
Was about to post the same thing. Reppin. Have been meaning to catch that parra fixie thing. Only for the skids though.
I think I sold the kuwahara track to Goomi’s Dad for Goomi. In which case it was an absolute steal.
good to know, i’m actually in Quakers today for work, M7 path FTW.
Love going for a spin at wisemans on the Old (great) North road.
any more deets on the parra fixed ride? i’ll defo come along once i’ve got the conversion together, soon i hope just need to build/buy the front wheel none of the ones i have lying around fit the 90mm fork spacing, Only to get some tips on how to do the best skids
I’ve got no info about the parra ride at all. I think HLC knows something about something.
Every chance I get to hang shit in the m7 I’m going to. FUCK THE M7.
I much prefer the ride out to Windsor. As for mountain biking you got some pretty neat stuff at Northmead/Northrocks which host a spiderweb of trails and there’s a bit of fat tyre fun at Fred Caterson.
Name: Ev, Evan, Stretch, Chubby (if you ask the wife!)
Location: Baulkham Hills, NorthWest Syd.
Bikes: Pinarello FP3, Kona KarateMonkey SS 29er
Beard: You’ve seen the instagram…!
ETC: Build/reno houses, make custom furniture, need more time for bike related activities
Name: Shakes
location: Melb, Northcote.
Bikes: Caad10, Jamis Dragon 650b, Koxx level boss, Vinatge repco dragster, GT bump, Kona firemountain.
Beard: facial pubes is a better description.
ETC: MTB/bikepacking/gravel grinders and so on, roadie to keep fit. Observed trials, super commuter. Family soaks up most of my time, in between I try and ride, climb, cut up motorbikes, go 4wd’ing and be a nerd.
Or Old Northern/the gorges/anything but the m7…
Damn straight.
lol at the M7 hate. I can understand it, Western Sydney’s most fred friendly ride.
All the rides you mention as alternatives are better for a fun ride than the M7 but none of them get me to work. I enjoy using the cycleways from Girraween - toongabbie - 7hills - Blacktown - Sunnyholt Rd - M7 as a relaxing more or less car free roll to work. There are quicker and more exciting ways to go but FFS i’m barely awake and prepping for 8 hours of begrudgingly working for the man.
Commuting is totally different. I use the m4 shoulder for my commute, I would never consider it if going out for a ride on the weekend. I’d actually really like it if the powers that be put in m7-style paths all the way to the city. As shit as they are for recreational riding, they actually work pretty well for getting from a to b in boring safety.
Name: Graeme
Location: Melb, eastern burbs
Bikes: 2004 litespeed with 2012 campag group, 1987ish colnago master with 2012 campag group, 2013 scott sub10 with belt drive/internal gears for commuting
Beard: goatee, tried growing a full beard but its very patchy and mostly grey nowdays
Etc: Miss riding fixed, but trying to minimize the amount of ‘stuff’ i have so i’m resisting the urge to build up another bike. I quite enjoy cooking:)
