Lorday's lawn mower thread.

I bought my mum a flymo the other day. Strange shit.

my folks have one, cos motor mowers gave my dad migraines.

gotta cut lawn regularly, but makes lawn very soft cos clippings go back onto lawn.

my grandparents used to use one to cut a ~60º slope between their house and next door that was covered in singapore daisy. lowered it down on a rope and hauled it back up.

my yard used to have sheep, but there’s no fence on the road side, so goats aren’t an option currently.

build a fence. get a goat. goats are awesome!

They’re currently meatpie approved too.

does rolly’s airtasker include fencing?

you’re thinking of chux.

Lordy - now that you are back, I need advice on a lawn mower. If I was asking Santa for a lawn mower, what should I get? Just your average yard size. I am also going to need power tools.

Honda.

Honda are the best, Briggs and Stratton powered stuff is also amazing,
I really miss having a yard :frowning:

I have a civic type r that I want to get rid of. 2 litre k20a, chuck that in a ride on and you’ll be laughing m8.

I think Blakey has one

Have you bought a house? Instagram keeps things from me.

I’m guessing Dayne’s advice on 18V cordless is still true. I use Makita at home.
Boys use Hitachi down the workshop.
Most of my grinders & corded drill are Hitachi.

This.

4 stroke, straight shaft libe trimmer & 2 blade, blade brake 4 stoke. The engine brake models blow.
The 4 stroke 4 blade Hondas were the goto machine but a deck redesign means they work really well with 2 blades.
But you can still run 4 blade and I might set mine up like that for the last 4 weeks of cutting in Autumn.

I have a Rover 45 for sale if any one wants to ‘manicure’ their lawn.

Or just buy a goat, goats are rad. And if not Vegan, milk the goat too.

Instagram?

Put it this way. Dad bought a contractor spec 21" Honda self-propelled hand mower in 1989 for the acre or so around our house that was regularly maintained. Had an oil change sometime in the late 90s. Mum still uses it now, it blows a little smoke on first start after a long hibernation but then again, that smokey start is on first pull, too. I think that’s hard to beat and the primary reason why when my partner and I moved from a townhouse to a suburban house on 1000m2 we bought a HRU19M1.

The engine brake on the HRU19M1 does blow a bit, but then again it catches about a 1/4 of the way through the first pull every time hot or cold.

This was a while ago, do you still need advice Blakey? Ezy was probably right. Checked my travel journal - I was in Bacalar, Mexico.

I could do what everyone else is doing and recommend a really expensive lawn mower that’s made to be used everyday, that you will use once at week (at most), or, you could tell me how big an average sized yard is and I’ll recommend you something cheaper and more suited.

Block size is 870sqm. House takes up 101sqm. I would say grass would take up about 350sqm. How does that sound?

That lawn could be any size.

Or just get a goat. Then post pictures of cats riding said goat.
