i never noticed the blood before…
so glad she’s ok!

Markee dude, thats not a near miss!
holy crap, glad she’s not too hurt, the claret on the frame is not encouraging in the slightest.
pass on our love mate
Amen to that.
Walking into ER and seeing a loved one in a neck brace is equally horrible.
Get a witness, get the plate… the police will provide the rest (sometimes after a little pressure) if the driver refuses to/flees.
The change of seasons is always bad… something about it getting dark earlier and drivers not adapting? All I know is that too many of my friends are getting hit or going down and I dont like it.
Best wishes and speedy recovery to her!
Sorry to hear Markee. Best wishes to her.
As below, you should have grabbed her number plate and then let her do a runner.
From VicRoads…
“If, as the driver of a motor vehicle, you are involved in a crash causing death or injury and do not stop and give assistance, you can be fined over $140,000 and/or be imprisoned for up to 10 years. You will also lose your licence for at least two years.”
After all the close calls I’ve (and you guys have) had, I’m uncomfortable when my wife goes out nowadays. Sadly, a few years back, it never would have crossed my mind.
Markee, I hope your girlfriend heals up soon. Such a horrible situation.
I worry everytime my fiance rides to work and I dread the thought of ever having to answer “that phone call.”
Woah! Markee… Best wishes to the girlfriend, man.
I ride between Kensington and Laverton Nth for work and I always let my girlfriend know when I’m leaving work so she knows if I’m taking too long. There are just too many close calls on that rd every time I ride it. For example one near miss today was where I just put my head low and then I see the mirror of a 3 tonne budget truck pass straight over the top of me. Way too close. CM’s is way too close. So I tried to catch him at the next lights to throw some abuse but he turned off… dammit.
Hope she gets better soon, Markee.
Doesn’t everyone? It’s just so enjoyable to shout stuff at mad drivers that have nearly hit you.
Im not sure but I think my Dad frets about that every time I ride two blocks away from home.
it’s ok buddy, as long as you’re home before the streetlights come on, your dad will relax…
Thanx for all the kind words guys I forgot I put this in here. She is doing well and will be getting some physio for her neck, the battle scars are nearly gone but we got some funny looks walking around the Sth Melb market on Saturday morning though.
Yeah and she was devastated when I told her it was trashed, then yesterday morning she went to ride to work on her old bike that we got going again on Sunday night and it had a flat, she lost her shit!
Yes that was her bike, Joe and Hamish(when he’s there) keep an eye on it for her.
She’s my fiance
Lucky for me she made the call and it was just around the corner from our house.
Also a big thanx to Fyxo Andy for some great advice on which way to head now.
Going to drop the bike into Cecil Walker for it’s 1st quote and to get another from somewhere else.
Cheers Markee
Had 2 near misses that weren’t even my fucking fault. Car comes out of Driveway too fast, Mums cycling behind, nearly hits me but I escape it. Car turns left and Im going across the footpath across the place where he enters the road on the left, don’t get hit, Mums cycling behind, sees it. When I get home she then says that Im not FUCKING ALOUD TO RIDE ANYWHERE! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! Im trying to gain her trust again by looking up road rules but I think that if we were riding on the road both would have been avoided. Mums paranoid about roads though. ARGHH!
Yeah footpaths are crazy dangerous for anything that is not at walking pace. You should figure out where you can link together some good safe bike lanes to ride on … plenty in Melbourne, and pretty safe for the most part.
I got wiped out early March at a roundabout by a 4x4 and luckily they stopped and gave me details. I filed a police report and they were 110% in the wrong (I was already in the roundabout approaching from their right and they decided to blaze through after slowing down…never assume a driver has seen you, I know from now on I won’t). My knee and left shoulder absorbed most of the impact but the bike is fine, a few scratches. Pretty near miss considering how fast I was going (about 30-35kmh) and how hard they drove into me (about 20km/h).
THEN
Last Wednesday coming home from work this tool in a mercedes benz decides to pull out from a crossover right as Im passing him and I end up scratching the right hand side of the car down 2 panels with my handlebars. When I say scratch I mean a 1.5m long deep gouge down to the metal. I sort of held my line and managed to stay rubber side down (fck knows how) then he gets out and starts abusing me!! I pointed out it was completely his fault (again, he didn’t look at all) and he started making up a whole bunch of excuses that the sun was in his eyes etc…and ranted that it was his wifes car and that cyclists belong on the footpath.
I took his details in case he tried lodging some BS police report/insurance claim as he seemed to care more about his precious paint rather than the fact he almost knocked me off my bike and put me in hospital. The next person to drive into me will receive a swift U-lock up in their domepiece.
That bike is jinxed Mike, you should give it to me.
Last thursday night on glen eira rd in carnegi , was pissing down in rain , and a lady decided to merge into traffic , she saw me and decided she would still pull out then blocking the cycle way its kinda hard to stop when its that wet , so i pretty much locked it up and slid sideway into to her taking out her mirror , lucky i didn’t get hurt , but she started having a go at me , in the past month riding to work it amazes me how people dont look or even if they see you they dont really give a shit and just pull out or merge into you!
Knocked a business lady down on Collins St this morning as she stepped out in to the bike lane from behind a car to butt out her cigarette. I went to help her up but she started crying and calling me a fucking idiot and refused any assistance. Most bystanders glared at me as it was my fault.
I laughed as I rode off though because the ciggy butt was stuck to her as she hobbled away.
^ moral to this tale is …smoking is bad for the health and well being of the smoker and casual cyclist.
I’ve been volunteering this week and last, supervising Grade 5 bike ed.
More near misses than a church tennis club.
Sydney Road, Woman stopped post intersection, I went to follow the bike lane around the left, as i was next to her car she rapidly accelerated veering into me running me into the bluestone gutter + into a parked car in front.
She nailed me to get a park in a no standing zone. didnt give a fuck about me laying on the ground, was yelling saying she didnt do anything wrong, then walked across the street to get some script filled at the pharmacy, then came back and kept arguing, I said “you cant even stop here its no standing” she replied, “oh no, I just stopped to see if you were ok”, she kept lying in my face about what had just happened which was confusing considering my mate was there riding with me as a witness. I said “you didnt even indicate and you cut me off” she then looks at my bikes and goes “aaaaahhhh :), no brakes, how could you stop
smiling ear to ear” what a bitch
She then tried to violently grab my camera out of my hands when i was taking photos of her car, rego and her, luckily i held onto the camera, she then went to get in the car, yelling “you try and do anything about this and I will fight you in court”.
My bars/griptape are fucked, brand new frame scratched to shit, new Concor light team saddle ripped, front aerospoke fractured from impact. Plus my knees hit the bars when I went over hitting the car parked in front = I havent ridden for about a month and it hurts to walk…
Still waiting for the cops to call me to make a time to take my statement.
What an AWESOME fucked evening.
im not saying if you recognise this woman driving up sydney road or around brunswick to take any justice out on her, but here are some pics in case she tries to do the same to you.
mod: pictures removed.
Sorry to hear about it, but I don’t think it helps anybody posting pictures of the woman and her car registration.
Yeah dude, keep the violence off the forums, just you and your mates try and find her car and break all her windows.
But don’t tell us about it.
