Hi, thanks for letting me join
Mikesbytes is who I’m known by on other forums
profile is
Middle aged but in good nick
Live Sydney Innerwest
I’m an ex racer who doesn’t do a lot of riding lately, still got the track bike, TT bike, road bike and a Fixie. Most of my riding nowadays is done on a budget mountain bike with the kids
I’m Nobody. Another refugee from Australian Cycling Forums (BNA) like Mikebytes. I have been there for 19 years, but it’s about to close end of month.
I live near Hornsby, one of Sydney’s northern suburbs.
I have 2 rigid MTBs (probably considered more ATBs these days compared to modern long travel duallys). Both 1 X. One old, one fairly new. I mainly ride gravel and tame single track.
I also have a road going flat bar commuter bike to go to the shops etc. It’s a converted '90s MTB.
I raced MTB in my early 20s (early '90s), but that’s a long time ago now. Just ride as my preferred form of exercise, and working on bikes as a bit of a hobby.
Hopefully these forums last a bit longer than BNA’s forums. I wanted to join another forum. I thought briefly about joining the Weight Weenies forum, but though I’d end up wanting a < 10 kg MTB with an unobtainium price tag, just to get some exercise.
Welcome. This forum has been around for nigh on 20 years but has gone a bit quiet in recent years. Looks like the BNA refugees might be the spark that it needs to kick on for a bit longer.
Hi, I’m Jerrod, also a refugee from the BNA forums and a refugee from the old Bicycle Victoria Forums before they closed. Not incredibly active as Duck18, but enjoy dropping in now and again to poke around.
G’day Foo, welcome to the fold mate, I think with all us BNA refugees signing up suddenly has made the locals wonder how what has hit them lol. It sure is a bit different here
Not around for a while as really not riding anymore. I still have my bikes including a BT Stealth and Planet X (the later set up as my Individual Pursuit bike), but have lost the desire to ride and race after going over the bars at 65 km/hr at a Brunswick Tuesday night at DISC… They’d grouped B grade with us to bolster numbers and the young kid steered onto the duck board mid bend… Plated collarbone still let’s me know it’s there every now and then even 10 years later!
Since then a lot has happened!
Majorly I lost my wife to cancer. Then started collecting cars including a couple of historic racing cars (current count 7 cars and 3 trailers in the drive), motorbikes including a couple of historic racing bikes with one I raced the Mt Tarrengower Hill Climb last October (current count 3 bikes).
After 23 years I was made redundant last year. As my mum had a stroke 18 months ago and now in a home and my late wife who was an only child parents are both in seperate homes with my FIL having dementia too, so instead of trying to get another full-time job I’m working casually selling rock climbing gear. This is allowing me more time to care for them and go climbing.
Another BNA refugee.
Old bugger long retired, living Brisbane Northside and riding for fitness and mental wellbeing
Currently have two drop-bar road bikes a Giant Defy (2014) and an Orbea Gain M20 light assist to help my ageing legs in the hills.
Ride mainly around the Redcliffe Peninsula on a regular basis either solo or with a group of retirees mid week and local club group ride on Saturday.
