For some reason “expect large numbers…” made me think of “Phase 1. Collect underpants. Phase 2. ? Phase 3. PROFIT.”
Well FOJCX was fun.
Rollercoaster claimed several people, some tubulars, a helmet and a fork.
I snagged the spikey bush on the off-camber 180 corner twice and was generally very slow around it but felt better watching A grade and seeing the top 5 also take it slowly and unclip around it (note for next time).
Lost it on practice laps across the off camber section after the gravel bermed 180, crank hit the up hill slope, damn low BB.
I had a ball.
Partially rolled my rear tub on the off-camber section but popped it back on and gingerly finished the race.
The rollercoaster was fun. The long sealed road gave a rare opportunity for some drafting and added a crit-flavour.
I really liked the bottom section too: fast, flowy, not too bumpy.
Plane spotting was fun too.
Was a good race and a course that will continue to get better as lines are burnt in more. Big ups to Sunbury and all who helped with the race!
That spikey bush off-camber finished my race after I OTB’d to thumb-jam. Had been tripoding it and thought I might be able to take a different line and stay clipped in but that didnt pay off.
Word is that the rollercoaster will be getting some adjustments to moderate the berm that was claiming riders. There were some great and not-so-great lines through it during racing. The good lines really had a visible benefit. I think the spikey bush corner might get some work as well, not sure what they can do to that other than berming it at the bottom.
They have a lot of options for course variations as well.
The one corner that unsettled me was the hair pin coming off the road section. It should turn into a nice corner as more people ride it down. And why weren’t more people cutting that corner on the road?
After the C grade race we were trying to find some shears to cut down the spikey bush. By the sounds of it, Pete was unsuccessful in taking down. Hopefully it’ll be gone by the next race; my right hand and forearm are full of little cuts.
I can’t wait to get back out onto the roller coaster, and the section down the bottom along the fence. I could also do with bigger tyres.
