Ralpha Super Cross in Sydney Park - 16 Nov

Lol!

Fines only apply at CQ races, and the fact they got so mad made it all the more funny.

My races are beer friendly.

wow. my rant made the internet go crazy!

just want to clarify a few things - firstly, i have ZERO affiliation with DDCX apart from thinking they are sick dudes (and commentators!) who put on events i LOVE racing in and volunteering at! As per Brenno & Hamish’s comments, i just took issue in the fact that one of the biggest, well known companies within cycling is basically standing on the shoulders of the little guy and professing to be the messiah! what a crock.

As for the “issues with Rapha” - not on my part. From a Melbourne point of view, i love the events/atmosphere that Wade puts on, and Al is not only one of the best racers, but nicest guys… that’s my extent to Rapha!

More races, more support, more friends… no need to shitcan others events FULL STOP.

I also wish Jamesy would race cycling cross again… but thats a totally different thread.

Never say never spiro!

Ahem…Carlin & I both brought beer to the CX race that the DDCX crew came to in Terry Hills. Also I want to race the syd cx but I don’t have a bike and I will have my kids to look after…so if i can get my old man to come along to watch the youngúns while I race and if anyone has a spare CX bike I will partake, otherwise will come to spectate.

Same. Alex’s memory is getting a little selective. Rowan had beer as well. Everything is lies.

You’re right - I do remember those icy cold beers glistening in hot sun… but I blocked them from my memory because I had to drive that day.

Hence I’m excited about a race venue I can ride to.

Hehe!!!

I can vouch that Jono was there, back in the day when the NSW CX scene was less than pro and events were held in the 'gong. Selfless as always he acted as soigneur for the visiting Brunswick crew, course marshall, crowd, official photographer and financial backer (he bought 2 sausage sandwiches). Whilst small in numbers the people of Wollongong & select FOA Mafia™ not only represented but even donned their special Spiderman outfits for the star studded event.

Neutral support = DIY, and the eagle eyed amongst you will notice bongo’s as well as cowbells bought a little extra Sydney style party flavour.

Holy shit, yes! Had nearly forgotten about that. Was a fun day.

Nice display of BrunswickCC kit

Whoa, hey there.

The FAQs copy was written in the UK, by Rapha. If they managed to offend anyone by the words in there, then please understand it’s an accident. It is by no means a jab at the work done by guys like Dirty Deeds and others in Australia … you guys have obviously brought all kinds of party vibes, and watching on from Sydney, we’ve long envied this. Well done to you guys, we know you’ve brought the party.

Honestly, if we (The Spokes People) were even aware of the shit-storm lying in that copy we may have pushed back onto Rapha about it. Though as these things go, you tend to be more concerned with the planning & running of the event. We have fought long and hard to get something like this in Sydney, and yes, there is a bar, very hard to make happen in this town!..

It’s easy to slag us off for our efforts, but you simply have no idea how hard it’s been.
Apologies to all offended, the copy is going to be changed.
Hope to see you all there!

And there we have it.

Edit: and I think we have a winner for longest membership before first post, Congrats esjay on holding your tongue for 22 months.

ain’t no one slagging you for your efforts, because we do know how hard it is. thanks for changing the site. now we can ALL go back to partying! i’m gonna have some toast and vegemite RIGHT NOW! WHOA!

Yeast based spread, because Rapha

Thanks for the words esjay, hope the race (and the rest of the events) go well. We do know only too well how hard it is to get this stuff off the ground in the face of shoestring budgets, permits, red tape and bureaucrats.

FUCK YEA TOAST

As a contructive extension of this thread:

To the DDCX people, what was the process you used to, I guess, start the series in Melbourne? I would like to make something similar happen in Sydney, and as everyone has said, it mostly comes down to ‘the powers that be’ in getting a venue close enough to the city. Terry Hills and the Illawarra are simply just waaaay too far. With some effort and some help from interested people in SYD, and the relative groups such as DDCX and Spokespeople, i reckon we could get the ball rolling.

pm blakey or hamish. this thread is off topic enough already.

also… no offence intended at the organisers for putting on the event… big props to you guys (the spokespeople me thinks from this thread?)

cool events are hard to create, and even harder to maintain. and as was one of the points i was hoping to make in the original post is that people WANT these events… so if you are in Sydney, and this is going to be a cool event… do those kids a favour and GO DOWN TO BRING THE PREVIOUSLY DISCUSSED PARTY… #ALL CAPS #ZEROFORKS

yeah - reiterating what the other DDCX/melbourne peoples have said ‘have at it!’ and best of luck with your event.

theres a lot of value to having an easily accessible race venue, with good community support (something the spokepeople have). Anything the DDCX team can do to help spread the growth of the CX domestically, just ask. There’s a lot of positive and constructive discussion already occurring between interstate organisers, everyone really looks out for each other (ask shannon up in newcastle about how much help parbs has been. talk to brad about how much stuff blakey and myself have discussed with him, ive got pages of emails between gemma and us… heck the ‘veloestate’ has hosted more CX race organisers/officials than anywhere else i’d say!) theres likely a lot of issues/problems we can help you avoid… (see hose reels/tread-ins and an assortment of other tricks).

@Alex and to get back to the topic, are you racing on Saturday? Who else is? Due to the lack of a CX bike I’ll just come and watch. Hope to get a CX bike ready during the Summer.
