Retro MTB thread

Holla if you need some Paul Thumbies, I have a spare set that I need to get gone.

Bought this a while back. Thinking i will strip it down over the weekend, maybe leave as bare metal. Yhink the bars are chrome under the white. Looking to upgrade gears to something a bit nicer.

Nice old 'goose!

I took mine for a ride this afternoon, actually, it’s first ride off road since I got it together. Definitely takes some getting used to (especially bunnyhopping and jumping which are completely different on a fully rigid bike).

Pretty rad to be able to get into the bush so close to the capital city, one saving grace of living in this town.

Also, Panaracer Smokes may not roll fast but they still work very, very well for a tyre designed in 1989.

Got it blasted and powdercoated clear.

Sick, sick, sick
Those tyres are so sweet too- what’s old is new again eh!

Does this count as retro? 2002 MsIsle with a modern build, rides well.

unreal! mountech stuff is swoight.

keen to hear how that powdercoat clear holds up.

The new Smokes are great H! I presume there’s been some compound tweaking, but all in all, it’s just like the old days.

Right now this is my only mountain bike so I’m kinda stuck, lol.

Hi there…This week I finished cleaning up a 1996 Univega Alpina 502…it was sold to a lady in the UK (still has the sales sticker) who rode it a few times on the road and gave up…its almost like NOS condition…full stx group…mavic wheels…concept cockpit…not top of the range …but still pretty cool₪

Stx group, man that stuff was bullet proof.

It shifts so nice…big ol loud click at the shifter but a smooth silent shift at the derailier

That thing is classy, and looks a v good fit! What sort of riding will you do with it?

That’s just sooooooo nice.

My friend Warwick sent me this - Falls Creek, this morning:

Edit: his bike since new

Im gonna ride Gap Creek on it…and just use it as my general commuter

Just picked this up for my Dad. Kind of want to keep it…

Yeah I saw that! I reckon it’s rad as.

Got it for a little cheaper than advertised. I don’t know much about mountain bikes but everything seems to work and the frame is spotless.

dat bar/stem combo thou
