I have a One Planet bag. Can’t remember the model (they’ve changed their names lately) but it’s 800 loft goose down and is rated to -7 (comfort). I got the long version, which weighs bang on 1kg and packs down to a cylinder ~25cm tall and ~15cm in diameter.
Think the RRP was $600 but the shop on Lt Bourke took $100 off after a bit of chatting.
I bought it more as a hiking bag. Not sure you’d need -7 on many rides and the extra down for lower temps adds a fair bit of weight. Highly recommend the One Planet on quality and comfort though, and local manufacturing = good post-sales service.
You are the man. Howcome none of these show up when I google for bivvy’s?
tmasz are they the ones you and the boys use? Everyone at work ridicules me for being a hipster, I would love a hip sleeping setup to continue the hatred.
Did a quick pitch of the new tarp before uni, set up is suprisingly fast and will no doubt get faster as I practice. Using six 1 meter zing it 1.5 mm guylines with micro clamcleats, 3 on each end. Will add two more to the mid point tie outs for a total of 8. Perfect amount of room underneath to keep you and all your stuff dry in actual rain, can be pitched lower for extra stormproofness. Next up is the flying diamond and a couple bike assisted pitches (no trekking poles).
Off topic but I also ordered a wind cover for my alcohol stove from tiergear that was cheap and looks the goods, going up some #coffeeoutside in a moment.
I managed to get a Mont goretex bivvy from Gumtree tonight. The kind the army used to issue when going on deployment. Goretex and has a half mozzie net, for $100 - exactly what I wanted.
I also got a denali trek sleeping mate today which was 40% off at anaconda.
So far my sleeping setup owes me $150. Now all I need is a -10 degree sleeping bag that packs down tiny - any ideas?
Looks OK, and means you could tent if you had a tarp already, but that’d be a ~1kg setup. Tarptent Protrail is about 700g already, and it’s a better, easier to setup tent.
Well I just want to now is it worth the price? Its going for $400 on wild earth but I’m happy to fork out the money if its worth it.
Its rated to 2deg - accurate? Trying to use it as much as possible for at least 3 seasons, year round if possible. I don’t get too cold so probably won’t need the spark III. I’m more worried that the lack of a full length zip won’t allow me to vent in the warmer months.
I think it runs true to temperature, I do sleep cold however. Like you I hum’d and ha’d about going to the 3, but in the end decided I always carry a down vest/jacket and can always add that if needed.
I paid $379 at backpacking light in Melb, must have walked in during a sale.
^ I got mine for about the same price too. Agree that it runs true to temperature.
Slept in a down jacket during the Swift campout when it was 0 degrees and was fine. I don’t sleep cold however. I was also pretty worried about using it year round - however I reckon it’s fine for Aus.
I’d bring a sleeping bag liner if it’s going to drop below 0.
I wanted a UE bag but with only a week left to the Kiwi Brevet, I opted for something I could order locally. In the end I’m glad I went with the Spark - its size/weight is perfect for bikepacking.
Used in summer in both Tas + NZ and it was perfect.
