Garmin 200. No mess, no fuss.

+1

+2.

Do want a 500 though.

X3, will think about a 500 for my birthday/occaision

I’ve had 3 500s and 2 800s…
Don’t put them in your pocket… Sweat plus pocket garmin=dead garmin…

The 800 has much better viewing than the 500 and the information cells are bigger and easier to read.

It’s far from perfect though. And unfortunately the new 810 is basically the same unit… Not a worthy update :frowning:

The new 510 looks like a decent unit with the touch screen been a massive upgrade over the 500 but the 2 new units are pretty half baked upgrades :frowning:

For me, the best thing with Strava is seeing where all of my friends are riding back at home while I toil away in the desert. As stupid as it is, seeing that someone has been on a ride that I used to do with them is one of the main ways I still feel involved with riding in Melbourne.

The other thing that I like is being able to find rides when I am travelling, and then have a record of where the heck I actually was when I go back 1+ years later.

Also, if you need KOM validation all you need to do is find a segment that was made by a runner but accidentally saved as a riding segment. Immediate domination!

if anyone is looking to palm off an old garmin, I would definitley be interested!

Is there a fixed.org.au Strava group? Quick search didn’t reveal anything.

I have a strava account and use it sparingly.

Honestly pin a number on and try set a KOM with 30 crew around you trying to tear your legs off and without having spent the previous 40km chatting about your latest PBK order.

It’s heaps more fun.

I use a Garmin 705, then it crapped itself so I went over to the iPhone. I don’t think the iphone is as accurate as the Garmin was in terms of elevation and meters of accent.

Just yesterday I reformatted the 705 which has breathed new life into it, so I will be going back to it and just carrying the iphone to aleviate my seperation anxiety.

The iPhone isn’t as accurate as the Garmin. Actually, it’s shithouse. The Android one is exceptional (naturally :p).
Strava is great, if you use it with a grain of salt. It’s nice to feel like you’re hauling ass on a ride and get home and see that you actually were.

fixed.org.au

have notice some speed differences with my garmin to a friends iphone. In the comparing mode we are next to each other and he seems to have faster speed .i,m trusting the garmin.

^ go with the faster speed! If the iphone says so, it must be true!

Some ride comparisons:

Yesterday - Roadie
IPhone / Strava 58.6km 446m 2:09:30 1587cal
705 / Connect 58.17km 531m 2:08:12 2940cal

Today - MTB
IPhone / Strava 16.3km 377m 1:25:57 983cal
705 / Connect 14.01km 464m 1:21:13 2941cal

I wasn’t wearing the HR with the Garmin on either ride.

true story: i was looking at the leaderboard for the kinglake climb and old mate was sitting in 15th (out of several hundred). had no idea of this… his quote ‘oh, thats was the day we went kinda quick’.

it takes me a month or so to upload rides anyway… so its obviously very important to me.

i do like the facility to provide new rides/ideas.

Strava has meant that riding with friends has become a bit shit when the road rises. I’m always struggling as i see guys riding off into the distance. It has sort of destroyed ‘group rides’.
I ride alot more by myself as i can ‘train/enjoy’ the ride a bit more.

Get new friends.

ride faster… train harder, drink less beer…
