New board arrived today. It seems like some of the finish has been set into the screw hole of one of the plugs and I cant get the key in to loosen the screw. Are there any tip to loosen this without stripping the thread?

^so a bit of resin or too coat dribbled in on top of the grub screw? If so it’s probably just sitting on top…how about (carefully) scraping it away with something pointy, like an awl or a kitchen skewer or something?
Yeah that sounds about right. I’ve had a go at scraping away the resin but the grub screw is in fairly deep and i don’t want to chew up the thread. I’ll keep at it though, hopefully can get it sorted.
Is it clear or a white/greenish color? It’s probably just polish they use to cut and polish the board it happens all the time.
Try a needle and blasting it with a hose.
Its just a cream colour, I put a bit of wire in there but couldn’t get anything out, you can’t see the hex of the screw at all. I’ve googled it a bit and there are a couple of options to try like the easy out screw bit - FCS Ultimate Surfboard Fin Tool
If all else fails, I’ll drill it out and just drill a new hole on the other side of the plug.
The fin is designed for the pin on one side may be add some water or turps to it and let it soak ?
Sorted the fins out surprisingly easy by drilling it out and then screwing in a new one - thanks for all the suggestions.
Moving on - I thought I would share - I spent the last week down the south coast of NSW. We surfed most days and went all over the place, the best spots were Broulee, Congo (huge swell, a little too much for me) and Potato Point. Here are a couple of photos I managed to snap at Potato Point while i ran up to the car, if you look closely you can see my mates out there.

Massive closeouts on open beaches yesterday so went round cowards corner on the peninsula and had some fun waves on a 7’6 “displacement hull”. Bastard of a thing to turn and super easy to bury a rail but man can those things trim beautifully. Closest I’ll get to longboarding.
The new “Raptor” fin set?

any online stores that sell cheap-ish SUPs? Looking at one for a bit of a muck around.

Spent the last few days finally repairing my old 6’4" Island board. Been so long since the days I’d drive to Phillip Island 2 or three times a week, I had to buy a new wetsuit as my old one has shrunk!
So some of you will know I spent last weekend in Manly - whilst I didn’t surf, I borrowed a mates handplane… man they are fun, I managed to cut along a few of the better shaped waves. The board/plane I used was a plastic ‘pod’, it did allow me to have fun - but holy shit, if for some reason I ran into someone or it into me I would know about it.
So this has me on the look out for a board/plane. So far my search has led me to a few different styles etc. I noticed that some have a handle that you simply grab while others have a velcro strap which allows you to put your hand out superman style. What are peoples experiences with these?

The one you just posted is a great one for actual surfing but not the easiest to swim with as youre hand is far back.
Id just make one or buy a timber one with a cut out
I did notice that it was a bit unnatural to try and swim with when you were out in the deeper water, but on the shories it’s fine as you can stand and launch yourself in the wave… I will try and keep an eye out for something cheap to do the job, or I think I might have a go at making one.
I have a Pod similar to the one above. Great fun matched with some short surf flippers. I don’t have a bungee strap on mine and can swim out with it stuffed in the back of my rashie.
Also cheapest option:-

YES!!! I read somewhere that people used thongs for bodysurfing. Might go to Kmart and track down the biggest size I can find.
I had a two day surf trip last weekend and had lots of fun (Disclaimer: I’m a booger). Got to break in my new birthday wetsuit which was rad however the chest zip/tight neck is a bit uncomfortable sometimes. Hopefully it stretches out.
ezy - see if Ev can make you one? or buy one of his chopping boards & cut a hole in it!
and don’t forget the Zak surfboards option, I drive past their store 3-4 times a week.
