The crit/race thread.

Thank you for that heads up, I’ll have a word with the graders on your behalf :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

come out for a whirl at Nundah - UQ have an early booking almost every Saturday at present and I think HPRW run straight after each fortnight

Sometimes, I reckon you would ban all new cyclists from organized racing if you had the chance

Yeah dude have heard good things, and they’re apparently going to do twilight racing Wednesdays soon

Twilight starts end of November. Its serious shit, twice as many riders at 5pm on Wednesdays as a Saturday race and twice as fast.

Is that a club race on the new course at Eenie Creek Rd or the annual hotdog course on Noosa Parade (which I thought was 3rd Nov anyway)?

It’s at the new crit track, it’s a club race but open to any club members
The hotdog course is still on the 3rd.

OK thanks.
What time rego/race?
The SCCC website shows it as a CQ event which threw me off
2012 Calendar | Sunshine Coast Cycling Club

Edit: I guess this applies then “Unless otherwise noted all weekend events registration 7am, racing from 7:30am.”

hmmm - I may be up that way this weekend. Had planned on leaving after racing with UQ on Saturday, but could head up on Friday instead to jump in on the Noosa action.

What time’s kickoff Dayne?

Dooo it 6am sat and 7:00 sun

Little bit of a funny story to share: race had been pretty fun, knew we must have been getting close to the end so I made sure to sit within the first 10 to 20 wheels and, at this particular point, I was sitting about 10th wheel when two lads jumped off the front. No one seemed keen to cover the move, so I launched off after em. I figured we’d try to get away from the bunch, so the pace was decent and the other two each did a turn, I pulled through on the ack section of the track and took my turn through the last corner and onto the finishing straight - flick of the elbow, moved over but no one was there… looked back, and the whole bunch was spread across the track, out of the saddle, sprinting… what the fuk??? I hadn’t heard the bell and didn’t realise we were on the last lap.

Felt like a fuking imbicile all day

But you were far enough in front that you picked up the win right?

I think what he means is he sprinted for the win after the Finnish line?

nah mate - the other way round… had plenty left in the legs, and came out of the last corner in first, but didn’t realise it was actually the last lap and I should have pegged it for the line

I wish - rolled over with the bunch. Didn’t think I could get up to speed in time to preserve the gap and decided just to hold my line and play it safe

Just rang the USM Brisbane Blast crew. The race is a no go.
They told me “one” of the pubs on the circuit kicked up a stink.

That’s bullshit if they got involved then it could have turned to a good moneyspinner

Any advice on how to get into crits in Bris? Being pretty new to cycling I’d imagine I’ll need to work pretty hard at the training before I am confident, but can someone recommend a club? How much training do I really need to do to be able to stick with the pack?

its 40 mins of circle work on the crit track at muzza. just make sure you can last 40 mins of tempo riding. C grade isnt very hard, you just have to deal with alot of muppets. you do get sucked along by the pack a fair bit. get a 3 race license from cycling qld and give it a whirl. if you like it then you can get a year license and the 3 race license is discounted from the yearly license pricing.

Another good option is to get along and have a look this Saturday, chat to some people, alao check in with a reputable bike shop in your area, go on their shop rides for bunch riding skills and advice about racing

cheers for the tips

have done a bit of group riding, but generally fairly steady pace stuff. have been along on the taylor cycles sat ride once, will do so more regularly in the near future. probably need to work on cornering safely & quickly in a bunch though.
