QFT… the phrase ‘hit it out of the park’ springs to mind.
i like the attitude, i wonder how the UCI will feel about their revitalised race being mothballed again for another decade. they might loosen up on aero aids in order to keep it in play.
I don’t think he’s wrong.
I reckon 55kms is well within his reach.
Loving it. Wiggo being Wiggo.
And yes, attitude will create mythological status. Hinault, Merck, Lance…
I have this essay in mind about cycling and myth. Maybe one day I’ll write it.
Do it!
Mystical v Mythological ?
I am increasingly becoming a mystic so who knows.
Could it just be a fluke that the logos on both wheels are perfectly aligned in the start blocks?
How’s that for attention to detail.
He couldn’t look any faster doing nothing if he tried. I think he may have been in a zen moment.
Wiggo out there saying that Boardman’s record could fall in his attempt on the hour - if the conditions are right.
“If the conditions are right on the day. They would have to be really right,” Wiggins added. “A lot of the hour record is dictated by temperature and air pressure. Air pressure is everything.”

Anyone have any idea if this is being live streamed like all the other attempts? If so… LINK ME!
So that’s why I was so slow on the way in today
This popped up in my gram today as well.
Wiggo was a dick to shout down Dowsetts record as soon as it was set. If he breaks it, his record will also go quick smart too. Far out, he thinks he’s one in a million for a bloke who targets a classic for a zillion months and then fails to factor in it at all, and won the tour by controlling his team mate.
lol
yip. lol at his “legacy” of one grand tour, one world TT championship and zero classics and being mentioned along with Merckx. He’s done well at olympics, for sure. His tour win goes in the same bucket as Bjarne’s, ie, leaders holding back better riders in their team. He’s beaten Tony Martin at world TTs once, by a margin half as big as Martin beat him the year before (not to mention being continuously smashed year after year before that). Mick Rogers smashed him time and again, he’s never held the 4000m world record, and his one stated goal of this season was a total flop. I’m not seeing anything that points to a person capable of putting a record out of sight, especially when there is a powerhouse TT rider who routinely destroys him and is still improving. All of that aside, a good bloke wouldnt shit on a mates achievement and hoover limelight like he did. If Wiggins breaks the record, and Martin says “I can break that tomorrow. Good effort Brad, but thats not even close to what I could do”, would FOA love Martin? No. Why? He doesnt wear lace up shoes.
Never owned a pair of lace up shoes, prefer ratchets. I like Wiggins because he is honest and seems like a genuine bloke, who doesn’t speak media-talk.
I’m not even going to bother defending him because it won’t convince you, in the same way I will never like Froome despite his wattage obviously being fairly good.
edit: i’ll also add, I like that he is having a stab at different things. What other GC rider these days had given the classics a go?
Don’t own lace-ups and our household is all about Der Panzerwagon. We desperately hope he goes after it and annihilates it.
We’re late to the Wiggo camp but we like it because he’s got some mouth and the trousers to back it up a lot of the time and he has a proper go.
Cadel? The question is, what other GC rider is ending their career and doing these things. Cool to try to tick the boxes as you leave, for sure, but a dog act to shout down an old team mate (who doesnt really have much of a profile).
I’ve never had much of an opinion on him til the last month or so. He’s never raced in a way that makes me think “Hey, Wiggins, you are awesome!”, whereas some other riders have gotten that reaction out of me. Even Lance was shitloads better to watch. Actually, I did care when he got skinny… I was sad for him, but it turned out well.
i never read it as a shouting down. Seem to remember him congratulating him when it happened. But why indulge in false modesty when results suggest that you will go further? To my mind he does it quite respectfully.
But this is all banter, Der Kaiser will always be my favourite cyclist. Although i wish he’d stop getting pinged for drink driving his Audi station wagon.
