The Hour Record Banter...

apparently he needs 890kms to break the outdoor track record (but not on track bikes?), so 3hrs to do 160kms?, the road record it apparently 840kms. I think he was aiming for 890kms

Yep MikeD. Aim was 890.

Just googled the track length and wikipedia is showing 312 metres - is that correct? The metarace distance divided by laps done indicates 320 metres. Presuming the official measure is the blue line, I wouldn’t have thought he’d be doing an extra 8 metres per lap.

In 1956 a new banked track was constructed on the old tip site at the bottom of the hill only a stones throw from Allard Park. Imagine the excitement of the riders moving from a 400+ metre flat cinder track to a 320 metre bitumen surfaced “speed dome”.

Pretty sure Jear gave him a survey of the track that gave them the exact length.

Might show up here soon?

What a fucking legend.

Bridie O’Donnell starting soon in ADL!

Awesome, new record.

46.882kms in 1 hour.

I’m keen to watch it. Might get to it tonight.

Dowsett to have another crack next year

Saw a chart that extrapolated the vo2 max figures for elite cyclist over age and this guy was pretty much on the ‘elite’ curve

He rode faster than I did this morning

Couple of attempts at DISC today
Apparently the guy (James Ogilive) is ahead by about 1km in closing stages

The penny farthing hour record is one of oldest records in cycling. Roger Davies and company will be attempting to break it on 15th June at Herne Hill, UK.

Mark Beaumont managed to break the UK record but not the world record with a distance of 21.92 miles (about 35 km).
