The Hour Record Banter...

I’m sure pinnarelo will make them available, let’s say rrp $200,000

The amount of rapha and sky marketing around this event leaves a bit of vomit in the mouth

This is silly - Canyon don’t make a track bike but they did for Dowsett. They made 4 in total; one for Dowsett, one for Canyon, one for Campagnolo and one ‘for sale’. Essentially he’s also criticising Dowsett as well?

Also, Team GB UKSI bikes can be bought just the price is prohibitive.

We must hang out in different parts of the interwebz: I actually haven’t seen any marketing around it all, apart from press.

So…roughly half the price of a dogma and half as ugly?

They do make a track bike, but not like the one he rode. Essentially all they’re doing is just putting different dropouts on their TT frames no? The only that really looked off the shelf was bobridge and dennis.

I’m not that bothered by it really, isn’t that 50% of the reason these guys are doing it? Surely if Tony Martin is entertaining the idea then Specialized will be throwing stupid amounts of money around to build him the worlds fastest Shiv.

I miss your disdain for the dogma on my morning ride and whenever one pops up on bicycle market/bikes of the bunch.

You’re right, they don’t do a pursuit bike so they put a new rear end on a Speedmax TT. The wheels Dowsett used were also prototypes.

Steph and I were having a similar discussion about the bike/s in the hour record a couple of days ago. Couldn’t there be something like there is in motorsport requiring homologation of the bike being used? A set number of units in production in order to qualify? Standard control parts? That Bolide looked wafer thin and obviously the handlebars are bespoke. I’m all for pushing the boundaries but it also looks like big money and big backing will help you put up a big time - something many folks won’t have.

Stop torturing yourself H and unsubscribe to the Rapha newsletter will ya?

Haha this is true!

I’m in two minds with this idea that bikes shouldn’t be designed for a particular record. After all, these records are not ordinary performances attempted by the ordinary folk, so there is some logic in thinking that their equipment shouldn’t be ordinary either.
However I also see that there has to be some kind of balance there, and that the bikes have to be somehow close to an ‘ordinary’ bike.

This is why the hole idea of the hour record should be in lugged steel construction
I would want to beat Rohan Dennis I want to gun down Eddy and Francesco

Just do it on NJS keirin frames and be done with it.

So smooth…

Seems odd to change.

If the projection is the record he has 3.5 hours remaining to cover 110km.
