Iām still dark out neighbours cut down a decent sized gum tree in their yard that screened one of our rooms and was visited by lots of birds. Was the biggest tree on the block.

Our neighbour has a massive gum tree in their yard that towers over our deck. Itās a really lovely tree and attracts plenty of birds. I use it to spot our house on the hill from town. He has it maintained, and last time he did we made sure we contributed to the cost of it.
There are plenty of stumps on our block and we had the impression that the previous owner wasnāt into big trees, but chatting to him recently he said he was devastated when he had them inspected and they were found to be unsafe and needed to come down. Our downhill neighbour had plenty of big old gums in his yard and had them all removed, and got a massive fine for doing so. I think he just factored the fines in as a cost though. Arsehole.
We have a lovely couple of peppermint gums at the bottom of the block. Theyāre right next to each other and the downhill one is on a big lean with lots of dead wood up the top, so weāre having it removed. Itās very sad, but should help the uphill one live a longer and happier life, and wonāt fall on anyoneās house.
