Fixie is back on the road. That’s all.
should we declare the return of SOTB?
NSJ: missed on a super cheap engine11 frameset that would of made the perfect summer steed
Both kids now on 700c road and track bikes. No more little tyres and tubes to chase down.
SJ: signed up for my first crit
NSJ: touched wheels at about 40ish on my usual saturday group ride and went down heavy, mild concussion and bruised kidney.
SJ: cancelled my race entry and was about to get my race licence refunded as was within a week
NSJ: miss out on crits with mate mates
SJ: bike seems ok apart from some rash on levers/rd
NSJ: rash on levers/rd
Jeez mate, that’s rough.
The fear of this is why I stopped going on the local club rides. I was getting sketched out by road manners of some of the members, couldn’t take it anymore…
Oh, and my own small joy. Did the Newcastle Overnight again last weekend. Rode solo for the whole thing cos it was last minute and couldn’t be arsed finding other people who were riding it, turns out a few guys I knew did it but I didn’t meet up with them…
It really took a lot out of me, if I do it again I’ll definitely find a trusted group to ride with and draft.
Our usual group is big, but we usually split and its normally 10 or 12 in the front bunch. However we had a new guy join us, if im being honest i shouldnt have been riding that close to an unfamiliar rider.
PS…your overnight sounds fun. If i could figure out how to use my cpap on bikepacking adventures i would.
no CPAP needed, no sleeping is done, just riding.
hahaha win.
SJ: Did a track stand on 104" gear last night in an Aussie Crawl at the Bundahdome.
NSJ: Came last anyway.
SJ: dusted off fixie, new pair of super nice skate shoes arrived (at like 60% off (ave 2.0)), found an empty local skatepark and went for a skate (for the first time in forever) on my lunch break. Could barely ollie but felt preeeetty kewl riding around melb with a fixie and skateboard.
NSJ: sunnies steamrolled by car as they fell off my helmet
TC: ive hoarded another 5 spares of the same oakleys so it was time to retire these ones anyway.
hoarding shows its true worth yet again
NSJ: The last of my Chinese carbon kids’ bikes went the way of the others as was pinched last week.
SJ: Found a good deal on a Specialized Sequoia with some nice Curve wheels with a dynamo. Swapped the wheels onto my bike and built up my first bike in years
NSJ: Didn’t consult the geometry chart, and a 54 Sequoia is more like a 52, so not sure how long kid 3 will get out of this
SJ: Now have 6 dynamo bikes in the shed for 5 people
SJ: Riding MTB and Gravel cos too wet for road
SJ2: Finding a new mate who also rides MTB and Gravel
SJ picked up this Norco Ryde for $45
And a Shotgun for $5, so if anyone in Melbs needs one let me know as my girls have well outgrowths need for one of these.
thats win!
