vegan for a week

OK, this is a serious question. Do any Vegans on here own cats or dogs and if so what do you feed them?

My dad had a cat, he fed it cat food

What, like processed meat type cat food? Wouldn’t that breach a vegans moral code ‘Undies’?

Pretty sure felines need taurine to survive, but I think this can be synthesised now?

So ah, just give your cat Red Bull then?

Yeah just generic cat food, mind you we (children) would still eat meat if we went out to a restaurant but he wouldn’t cook it for us or have it in the fridge etc.
He was all sweet with it, didn’t force it down our throats like Christianity or anything like that.

Fair enough. I’m just really interested in if vegans have a moral dilemma feeding tinned food etc to their pets when clearly it’s part of the whole animal slaughter process.

I had a mate of mine whose girlfriend was so hardcore that she tried to make their dog vegan. Fed it nothing but soy, rice and vegetables. It lasted three weeks before it had to go to the vet.

Yeh, I also know that dogs are technically omnivores but you don’t need teeth like that for lentles and mung beans.

Vegan Pet Food: Is It OK To Raise A Cat Vegan?

If you are a vegan, get a rabbit.

I think that it is possible to have healthy vegan pets if you do it right.

My dogs love pasta, rice and carrots… but I couldn’t imagine not giving them a marrow bone to chew on.

making your pet vegan for your own personal reasons is seriously, selfishly fucked up. if you’re a vegan you shouldn’t have a pet at all, eh?
surely keeping a companion animal for no purpose than your own gratification is sorta up there with eating an animal for your own gratification

Sort of agree with you there

what about rescuing an animal from a life of abuse and slavery so it can be well treated and loved?

who says that animals cant experience pleasure from human companionship? i’ve seen plenty of animals develop a strong bond/love for their owners. is that a result of a one-sided relationship like you state?

Your still feeding the system that is ‘pet ownership’. There are always greater gains for the human side of equation. LHS does not equal the RHS.

The more I think about it, pet ownership as a vegan really is an oxymoron. Secular to the principles of church of ‘veganism’.

I should become a vegan so I can pull up people for letting the side down!

I hope your mate no longer has this idiot of a girlfriend.

Whats the vegan stance on wearing fur and leather if it is second hand/vintage?

well, that’s the reason i do it!

pretty sure it’d be a no go, one reason being if you can wear second hand/vintage fur, then by the same reasoning you can also eat the meat that’s in the supermarket because it’s been killed and its already too late for that particular animal

Pure ‘veganism’ can’t be achieved in todays system of control and keeping the ‘statu quo’. Our dependence on animals is so far reaching in so many facets, it is next to impossible to avoid. Even your indirect action of paying taxes feeds the system that supports vivisection. Fall off your bike and need a skin graft? The fundamentals were tested on a pig at some stage and continue to be refined using vivisection. A truly committed vegan would forgo a skin graft out of principle. The same goes for all modern western medicine.

haha, oh man. i know this couple, they are the worst people i know. fucking, strict, asshole vegans, who call out anyone for anything. well anyway, they have this theory right, that they can wear fur and have dead bear rugs because “we’re the only ones who truly understand and appreciate this animal”

so basically, there’s heaps of photos of them at, “STOP SEAL SLAUGHTER” protests, wearing huge fur jackets, and leather boots and shit.

also photos of them posing with a dead bear sliced into a rug.

they’re fucking idiots.
