vegan for a week

dude, name names!

reminds of this skit from Dave Chappelle

edit: I am now giggling at my desk watching Chappelle clips on youtube!

fuck yo’ couch!

I thought i should do a quick report on how my week went as a vegan:

im not going to go through my entire list of meals as i had planned but some of the better meals included falafel wraps, humus on toast, rice with onions, green vegies, pine nuts, then salads. pasta with tomato based sauce with vegies. humus got me through the week and i have been eating heaps since this diet. peanut butter is also awesome. one morning i had fried tofu on toast with spinach and some tamari which was good also. i think the worst part other than the soy yogurt, was the limited choice; there are defiantly some really good vegan meals but to keep up an interesting, healthy diet would require a high level of organisation which now i respect highly in vegans. One other task was seeing all these meat based meals and having to turn them down; asking waiters and friends if they used butter or if the sauce had any milk or egg in it. often the idea of vegan was hardly even comprehended and simply taken a vego.

I apologise for my poorly written report but pretty much what i learned from the week was that vegan is defiantly bearable if not pleasurable and i have adopted some vegan meals as a general thing however if i were to do it full on id want to have a bunch of mates who were also at least vego. i also dont think i would want to put myself through the task of always turning down meaty meals (the book keeper of my dads business who is indian brought in some curry his wife cooked and i had to freeze it until the week was over). defiantly a learning experience and worth trying.

i tracked back the origins of VEGAN FOR LIFE! and discovered this quote from CraigC:

"I love animals…they’re delicious! "

unfortunately i have to agree and hence wont be vegan again any time soon.

Welcome back son.

fuck that looks good and i havent eaten dinner

Excuse my ignorance, but is there some sort of trendy relationship between Fixed gear riding and being a vegan?
I’m old and cynical and it all seems like idealism for a trends sake.
I just eat a balanced healthy diet of everything.

You’re excused. Similar thing came up a while back with someone asking if there was a connection between straight-edge and fixed gear. Started a shit storm!

Short answer is no. As 2joes just said being vegan takes effort, patience and dedication. Once you’ve taken that red pill and begun to educate yourself about a subject that most take for granted it’s pretty hard to go back. I myself would need some pretty compelling arguments beyond “I eat meat because it tastes good”. As for posers, what grinds my gears are people that go on about not eating veal because it comes from baby cows and that is cruel, but then tuck into a massive serving of dairy.

i’m all up for animal adoption, but how many ppl actually go adopt a cat/dog from lort smith etc. ultimately the amount of animals that end up euthanised is entirely the fault of irresponsible ppl in the 1st place, pet-breeding industry blah blah blah.

and obviously animals love their owners, but you know, if they’d never met them, never been bred by a cruel/lazy system…

and my original point was i think it’s cruel, stupid and selfish to force a vegan diet on an omnivorous animal based on your lifestyle choices.
