It’s confusing me cos can’t see a top/higher mount in that pic.
Yeah, you right.
In the “in use” pics on the company site it looks like there are mounts on the trailing edge of the rear vertical rail that mount to the fork. Could be wrong though.
Google Image search shows this:
It’s got some funky looking hangers for the Canti Posts that meet up with the middle horizontal. Weird.
Or you use the same mounting posts but swing them around and use them on the fork mid mounts.
Seems flexible in what positioning it can do. It’s something I’d expect to see on the website, spruiking that flexibility, as it can be used on any bike apart from a super fat, and they have a rack for that too.
Jenson shows good pics.
And Bike Rumour does a good write up on how the attachments work, just scroll down a bit.
I haz this - iz black
Nice rack.
And heavy.
Compared this and Soma Porteur rack side by side and the Soma rack weighs almost half as much as the Surly rack.
yes, but can carry much more (30kgs vs ?) and only weighs 200g more, is much more adaptable, can fit nice and low.
but def. doesn’t look as good.
I think it can carry twice as much as the Soma. Different uses as well. Glad I went with the Soma because it has the option of being able to run smaller panniers if need be.
Surly can run panniers too, both good racks, esp. the updated Soma with extra mid fork bracing struts.
YES, it will…
On the rack topic, does anyone have recommendations where to buy a Spez Globe Porteur front rack?
There’s one on the wall at Epic Cycles in Brisbane.
When’s your frameset going to be in town Scotty?
TBC geoff
Did you order it yet?
yep already on the way
Looks like an exact replica of the Wolverine…
Close, no split stay, no sliding rear dropout, probs lighter too, will find out when Scotty gets his.
This thread was useful when I was looking for front racks earlier in the month.
I ended up getting this Soma mini rack instead of one of the nittos cos I can hang small panniers from it as well as a rando bag - plus I like the eyelets and potential to attach a small box or tray to top of the rack as well. Longer term I would like to work out a way to attach low rider side frames to the bike as well to handle heavier panniers.

But I also saw this which I thought was pretty neat and you guys might be interested instead of the globe one. It is shiny polished Al, looks pretty good if you have the bike for it. Also comes with a railed version.
