I use marine grease for headset, BB and for everything on my “everyday” bikes.
For the truely obsessive, on track wheels used only indoors i’m using Slick Honey. It’s bike suspension grease but it’s great for wheel bearings, pawls in freewheels (yes I know it’s a fixed forum!) and even on cable inners for super smooooth brakes.
Never thought about using a syringe! I’ve got a friend who owns a pharmacy so I guess I’ll be bugging her. Though it’d be hard to draw the grease into the syringe wouldn’t it?
hmm … from memory drawing it in doesn’t always work perfectly, but then I don’t generally need a lot. It’s just for being able to squirt a bit into a tight spot. If I want lots of grease, there’s usually enough room to coat it with your finger.
Been a while though … can’t remember if the whole plunger comes out the top which would mean you could fill up the whole chamber
I’ve always used a 5 to 30cc irigation syringe with some tubing over the tip to get it in hard to reach places, I literally have about 5 different sizes in my chest.
I’ve been using black lithium grease since the old dude at Paul’s Hardware (Castlereagh St Sydney) recommended it, but having had a bunch of water get into my front hub iIthink maybe the marine stuff is a good idea. Supacheap auto?
