Police Academy 3 - Back In Training was on tonight and I was reminded of something I discovered years ago, but this time I made a chart.

Police Academy rating decline

I watched Snowtown last night. Some grim times. A good Australian flick though.

I feel bad for the town/townspeople of Snowtown though as it wasn’t really associated with the murders, only one of the 11 murders occurred there and none of the victims or murderers were from there. I’ve been there and it isn’t a particularly creepy place.

Prolly affects those living in SA a bit more than others as the locations are recognisable. Salisbury, Port Wakefield Rd etc.

i watched ‘enter the gift shop yesterday’, and found it quite enjoyable/amusing. gives me a bit more respect for banksy again.

In my opinion Police Academy 5 is the absolute best of the series, it was when it hit rock bottom but in so many epic ways.

It never stood a chance without Mahoney.

Saw a few lately

  • Paul. OK, reasonably funny.
  • Drive. Loved it. Not only was the music good, but the credits were done well, too.
  • Margin Call. Not bad, sometimes felt a little too close to the bone.
  • 25th Hour. Worth it for Ed Norton’s rant against all of the minorities in NYC, and then the way he gets judged by them at the end.
  • Contagion.
  • Warrior. Good film.
  • Love the Beast. Some of the expressions on Bana’s face were so painful!

has anyone seen the trailer for the Total Recall remake?
I know it’s a sin to remake such a classic, but it does look really good…

But how hype is the world when we have a trailer just to announce the release date of the full trailer…

It does look good. Prometheus is on my list as well.

+1
The Cabin in the Woods looks pretty good, as does Ted.

I really hope prometheus isn’t shit.

Drive I thought was sorta average, it didn’t live up to the hype anyway. Does have a decent soundtrack.

Ides of March was pretty weak and I’m sick of this Gosling guy, you could fell a tree with his chin then turn it into an ornate balustrade with his nose. Presidential campaign with the cliche scandal - rooting the interns. Whoops spoiler alert.

Contagion I enjoyed. I love disease outbreaks. All star cast and I really liked seeing Gwyneth Paltrow in a role like that.

Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy was brilliant, everyone should see it. Gary Oldman is badass.

The Thing was an alright action flick, nothing compared to the original. The best scenes are during the credits.

I also rewatched ‘Note by Note - The Making of Steinway L1037’ which is one of my favourite docos and anyone who enjoys seeing things get made by hand or any other sort of artisanal crap would really enjoy this.

The best part was the end where they start chasing the dog and it leads into the original…
I’m watching Monsters tonight and as a massive sci fi nerd I’m a little excited.

been meaning to watch this, and hugo apparently supposed to be good too

I didn’t understand a single thing that happened in Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy - it made me feel very inadequate in my ability to understand words.

Just watch it a second time!

and “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer” looks… interesting.
Neighbourhood Watch will be worth is just for Richard Ayode getting a Hollywood role.

If you liked Drive, hunt out a copy of The Driver, with Ryan O’Neal, by Walter Hill. There’s a clip on youtube of the first chase scene which The Driver pretty much copied/homaged. If you like car movies, there were some crackers made back then… The Driver, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, Vanishing Point etc

yup, you’re not the only one… might give it another

Greatest movie of our generation.

+1 for Vanishing Point. Two Lane Black Top is a goody also.

I remember a heap of people at my college in the UK decided they were going to quit graphic design and become storm chasers after watching this for a college assignment, I think most of them actually ended up in call centres like myself.

This film was just on the cusp of when CG was changing everything.
