Film Thread

I watched ‘My Year Without Sex’ on the TeeVee the other day and really enjoyed it.

I have 7 weeks uni break so I have been watching a movie every couple of days for a while.

So far watched Shawshank Redemption, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Drive, Searching for Sugarman, and Garden State. Reservoir dogs was probably my least favourite of the three Tarantino films I have watched. But all round pretty great movies, Now I can join in conversations when people are all like" what! you haven’t seen Pulp Fiction!"

Sugarman is awesome. Grew up listening to Rodriguez, I thank my Mum.

I watched “Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief” last night…
terrible movie, complete waste of good weed.

Had to watch Robocop after just to salvage something out of the evening.

Watched the doco “Sound City” was really good.

Yeah I watched that a month or so ago. Fucking excellent.

It Might Get Loud is also worth checking out. It’s pretty much Jack White (who I’d never heard of before), Jimmy Page and the Edge talking about their music careers, how they got into it and talking about their different guitars and sounds.

I’m always drawn to movies which include sharks, regardless of how crap they are. The next big hit… Sharknado!
If you don’t take things too seriosuly syfy have made a heap of these types of movies.

I have a massive thing for “Giant monster movies” all the way from Clash of the Titans/Sinbad movies right through to Frankenfish… Sharktopos was the last one I checked out.

The Reef is pretty decent and also pretty terrifying.

Took the squids to Man of Steel, even the 10yo canned it.

watched it on the plane recently. total banger.

dave grohl might be making music for surburban dads now, but he deserves a high five for saving that desk.

im also pretending the ‘jam’ at the end with mcartney didnt happen.

i watched ‘pitch perfect’ on blakeys recommendation. its no ‘bring it on’ but not bad for a plane film.

Yep. Worth it for the opening scene of Jack making a ghetto guitar.

Watched I Robot last night, I’m a complete sucker for anything sci fi.
Finally get to see the new Bourne tonight after having it on order from the library for 4-5 months.

Can’t wait for this next Cuaron. Big fan.

i watched the following at the valhalla movie marathon:

REC - spanish film about nasty shit happening in an apartment. creepy and kinda fucked up. good though.
From Dusk til Dawn - pretty funny gore vampire film.
The Cabin in the Woods - bit of a different twist on the ol “young adults go off to fornicate then get killed” genre. i liked it though.

i’m not much of a movie-goer, so that’s all i got.

From Dusk Till Dawn’s hilarious. Random before random was in.

I watched the first half of Les Miserables the other day, the one with Wolverine in it.

If someone can explain to me why this is considered a good movie, I would be very appreciative.

Have you seen “Full Tilt Boogie” very interesting doco about the making of dusk til dawn. Worth a look.

From Dusk Till Dawn was my Sunday hangover movie yesterday. Still good even after multiple watches. I’ll definitely check out schooism’s recommendation above. I do like reading/watching about Rob Rodriguez. Has anybody here read ‘Rebel Without a Crew’?

I saw REC at a Melbourne Horror Film Society screening a few years ago. It had everybody jumping pretty successfully. Shit certainly went down in that apartment building. I’ve Been meaning to check it out again.

I’m a fan of Rodriguez, although in my opinion I think he’s kinda backed himself into a corner making bad “grindhouse” movies. He’s way better than that Machete rubbish, dude made The Faculty and the Mariachi trilogy.

No I haven’t, I’ll keep an eye out. Briefly saw the intro on YouTube. I’m not a big fan of Rodriguez, but I do follow what he’s doing every now and then. Plus Sin City’s great.

Haven’t watched it myself, and never really finished the book either. So… what’s not good about it?
