land rover appreciation thread

Saw this on the weekend when camping, not a land rover but I’m sure it’ll get some love anyway:

$65k to $75k of Defender…bonkers.

I’m not sure if there are any Disco fans here, but I just noticed this thread. Here’s a story I did for The Versatile Gent. We got to drive a fleet of the new disco’s down to a farm. Really nice cars.

I don’t understand why they’re fitting such low profile tyres to Discos and Range Rovers these days. How do you reduce the pressure for sand and rough roads? There’s just not enough volume. These low profile tyres must have stiffer sidewalls so reducing pressure won’t help much anyway. Not to mention potential damage to the rims. I know you can always fit smaller wheels with bigger tyres (and then you will be limited by those big disk brakes) but the fact that they fit those as standard tells me that they don’t expect too many owners to take them off-road or up the beach.

But they look great when you pick up the kids from school or get a latte after yoga…

Gosh, you could really be onto something here.

i couldn’t find an image, but i remember there was a massive billboard on the Tulla fwy for the new RR SVR model.

Tag line was something like “The fastest Range Rover we’ve ever made”.

Compared to something like this…

Says it all i reckon.

Dude near my house has an ex-army Perentie, complete with the shovel/pick/whatever strapped to the bonnet, jerry cans on the back etc. I quite often just stop and stand next to it for a while.

tc: I spend a lot of time daydreaming about owning a Perentie.

hahaha brilliant.

Me too I really want one

The Ambo version on Gumtree at the moment is already setup with two beds.

6wd? Na

says it’s only got 24196km. Surely it’s missing a ‘0’???

yeah, I looked these up and there’s a shitload of reasonably special parts in these. Would be a very expensive exercise if a 6-speed transfer case shit itself.

nah, some of them are seriously low kms.
also, most of the standard 4wd ones are rebuilt from the ground up before being released into civilian hands.

And they burn way more fuel, and they’re much more cumbersome

my mate has a 6x6 perentie. plenty of resources, and parts aren’t that special. go for it, but they are fuggin hooooge, no perentie is water-tight, and they don’t have locks or keys either… great as an off-roader, not so great as a car.

also, not all perenties are created equal. low km doesn’t mean they haven’t been well-used.

This vid has some nice footage of the Parentie testing:
