Other Melbs CX? (i.e. not dirty deeds)

so i’ve got a 1 in 5 chance to win??!

Just checked the entry list again. Now a 1 in 6 chance…

I think I entered today (using the manual form attached to an email - I haven’t heard confirmation yet).
I also just noticed the times have changed - Masters at 2pm now. I thought I’d read 4pm last week.
I’m looking forward to racing on the course. Hopefully there’s a flood of entries tomorrow.

It was still 4pm late last night when I posted my online entry… Guessing as there are only 4 junior entries so far that they are moving the start times forward.

If you are MMAS2 and a Brunswick member you are on the start list going on your initials.

I’m up.

They were planning to run the elite races at dusk (the track has floodlights) but the lack of entries meant that they werent as inclined to wait the time to do that after the school champs. Bit of a bummer as a dusk race there would have been pretty sweet…

There a bit of conflict with the Yowie (at the YYs) and the Scott24 so thats hit the MTB numbers apparently. Plus theres a few people who have hung the CX bike up for the year post the natz weekend.

The course has enough features that mechanicals/crashes are a possibility which could mean stephen bradbury-ing a medal isnt out of the question.

plus - it has high ‘get rad’ potential so whats not to like?

that MMAS2 is likely me.

the boiler suit will make a return this saturday

Official entries list (fortunately more riders than what was on the online entries screens)

Start List - 2013 Victorian Cyclo-cross Champs

The lulz and Dad jokes will be flying…Brendan and I will be calling it…thinking about doing a blue set.

Looking forward to it!

Missed nearly all the CX races this Winter as I was training for my USA road trip…

Was a very technical course so struggled a little. Will need to get my skills up for next season…

Jez tried to give a holeshot prime, but had no takers.

Come elite men & women Jez snaffled the men’s and Jade Forsyth snatched the women’s from me and clenched it between her teeth.

It was a day of motorbikes and mechanicals

As Nik found out when he flatted super early, took a bike and shoes that were too big while Jelmer fixed his flat, so instead he was forced to take GB handups.

Well according to those results, I Bradbury’d my way in to 10th in the elite!

I’m not sure that’s right, as I was actually wearing #13 - not #14, but I’ll claim it.

That hard-packed rubble around the top of the course was pretty hard on the body after an hour of racing. I had a great time though. I got lapped by some great riders which gave me a chance to follow their lines for a few corners (or less) and feel like I learned a lot about racing.

I thought the course was great too. A good variety of surfaces and some good fun weaving in and out of the bmx track.

Think the results in the rear end of the field are a bit messy. I have disappeared altogether, was racing with number 14 or 15, not sure.

Anyway, it was a hard race. Very exposed, rough hard-packed course. There are blisters in my hands from the shaking around on the rubble straights. The wind didn’t help either.

Stacked once on the off-camber turn onto the BMX track. Hurt my knee, was about to pull out when I remembered being all “Death before DNF” to Nikcee when he punctured. So I got back on my bike for another 30 minutes and finished the race a strategic 2 laps and 5 meters behind the winner.

The difference between “Plus 1 lap” or “Plus 2 laps” in the results was definitely not worth doing another lap for

Anyone heard word of Syca-cross or any other Melbs CX (other than DDCX)?
-tossing up whether to renew my MTB license or just buy the sweet t-shirt/4 race permit on the DDCX site.

Also, guess this should really be in the Melbourne section eh?

Whittlesea has been exceptionally quiet. CV invited them to a CX meeting and they didn’t respond (which to me is pretty poor form - ignoring the hand that feeds/endorses you).

There’s been the usual rumblings about other races but nothing confirmed yet afaik.

I hope they end up running a series. I really enjoyed their racing last year.
The more cx the better I reckon.

I’m disappointed they don’t seem to be running cx races again. You gotta give these things time to build.

Won’t go into too much detail and I don’t really know that much, but I wouldn’t expect too much from Whittlesea CC / SYCAcross for quite some time. That is unless someone else steps up to run the whole show. Poor form certainly excused in this case.

I have been given some background and I agree.

It’s an unfortunate situation and I certainly hope someone else can step up.

Shame about SYCA-Cross that was a good series last year.

Dirty Gran Fondo is on again this year Saturday 10th May, Wandong Vic - with a little bit extra at the feed zones than normal (of course we’ll have DC’s espresso machines again).
