Then it looked like this

agreed. i’m quite enjoying this thread. it’s like looking at old highschool yearbooks…
First ‘modern era’ fixed gear bicycle project. Frame was a Bundy roadie that I got for 50 bucks and resprayed. Kinesis alu forks just about shook the teeth out of my head. Bars were flipped and chopped chinese drops, which I painstakingly drilled so I could run the roadie brake levers un-reversed with internal cable routing. Wheels allegedly once belonged to Steven Pate (FWIW). Tri-style bottle cage arrangement was a short-lived experiment. Frame was too small but it served me well for about a year’s cummuting & JRA before a chainstay gave way to secret rust.

It wouldn’t surprise me on the wheels. I had one of his track frames, and could have had a road frame if it had fit me. He was like some cycling santa leaving presents here and there for people to enjoy.

Still hanging in the garage, but with a sad kink in the downtube. When it comes to first track bikes, I was spoiled. Best frame ever.

Bought it because it was on special, thought I could transfer all the parts to my 10-speed. How wrong I was.
The frame was shit, but I kept using the wheels on another bike.
Excuse the icecream.
This was my first build over a year ago now. Still have the frame but just about everything else on it has been changed.

A Gove (local brand - they still have a shop in Ballarat I think) of uncertain age, bought as a resto last year. Saddle’s a POS rescued from my 20" and held together with gaffa but comfy as hell. Replaced the cruiser bars straight away with some old Chinese racers. Recently replaced the plastic pedals (slippery when wet) and threw in a new bb with sealed bearings. Nice and light and a great ride all up. I did consider getting a blue powder coat but the piebald paint job is growing on me.
bump because I went past Gove shop last weekend and marvelled at the fact the old guy is still alive. When my dad came to Australia in the late 60’s he got a bike from there that he still has in the garage.
I reckon I might drop in next time I go through. I’d love some info on my frame

It took me such a damn long time to build this bike. British Track frame built in 1962, campag rims, dura ace cranks… Built 2004.
That’s really nice Nick!
CLASSY
this needs to be stickied…

Is there a prize- for the oldest?
This is possibly my second “fixie” think it was a Witcomb, taken warming up at Paddington Track in London would have to be in about 1978, note the nylon (Nyflor) headset- Airlite Hubs (110 rear), singles of course- would be Clement 9’s. The chainset was a 151BCD - maybe mighty comp? Bars were narrow road ones- not good for sprinting. The shoes were Pete Salisbury, hand made- wonderful things, best I ever had with old nail on cleats. Not sure what the guy is doing behind me- but that is the steepest part of the banking!
I should say I used to ride this bike a fair bit on the road- including to the track on a Tuesday night- with front brake and race wheels in “sprint carriers” on the front axle and a toestrap on the bars to stop the wheels moving around. It was a fun ride during peak hour from Richmond in the west to Paddington in the North West.
Paddington Recreation Ground Track was built in 1887 and pulled up in 1984- There was supposed to be a wooden track built in London, instead the built Hillingdon crit circuit. Chas Messenger ran Paddington Track League for years- a cycling legend and a good mate RIP.

^ If their was a prize you’d have it mate,
Nice pic
My first… 1986 MBK Super Sprint. A lot of elbow grease on this one.

My first fixie, just builit it up a week ago. Its a 2005 (I think) B2 Felt Time trial, regret buying the frame cos of vertical dropouts. and i just dont have the vintage feel in this bike, feel bad about that too…

Keep looking out for a White industries Eccentric hub, (I recommended it for a reason) Depending on the flange size of your current hub I can lace the WI hub into that wheel no problems
I’ve already found a stocker, mal’s got one in stock, bt it’s overpriced at $300, I’m looking through a few websites to get one sent in. And also mals only got it in silver.
