Retro MTB thread

I love that Ridge Runner.

Hey, I’ve got a front rack like that, but with lowrider mounts, and without the mid-fork stays.

Sweet ride Gypo

Old Japanese racks are gorgeous.

I’ve been holding onto it for ages trying to find something with mid fork eyelets that would match the stays, they’re too high for most 700c eyelets I’ve come across. It reaches the 26" canti post perfectly, but I need to find some sort of mounting tab that fits onto a canti, like how the Nitto Campee front rack mounts. Still workin on it.

And ditto ^, nice bike!

whats the biggest tire youve been able to fit on older mtb, say an early/mid 90s steel GT ?

2.35 doable?

Will be very much dependent on the brand of tyre, and also the brakes. A 2.3 will probably fit in most things. Konas have big tyre clearance, here’s an old Lava Dome on 2.5/2.35 Minions!

Anyone visit Whites Bikes on St Georges Road in Fitzroy North? He has a beautiful collection of Fat Chances!

cheers floody, look like ill be heading in a different direction. Picking this up tomorrow…yehhh

2.1s on both of my old Ritcheys were maximum, and that included some paint rubbage when things got muddy.

Here’s a question, which rim to buy for tubeless rim braking 26" action these days? I really wish I had stockpiled more 355s.

Picked up a Sunn Urge recently, chucked the parts over from the dale. Oh, and 2.4s fit with plenty of room.

Shit yes!! I would love a sunn

cheers JP! first commute on it today, lovin it.

Love Suntour XC Pro components… even better when still wrapped in plastic:

Never liked the cranks. Do very much like the rest of the XC Pro groupset.

What’s wrong with them? I just bought a set in 110 BCD, was going to try to set them up with low q as a sub compact double, haven’t even started playing around but I found out from this that they take a 125ish BB, so at least there’s plenty of spindle to play with.

Side note, this XC Pro spindle length question is the oldest thing I think I’ve ever seen on the net, I didn’t even look at the date until someone mentioned Suntour ‘now out of business’, June 1995!

Question is vintage enough for this thread

Nothing. They are a great low bcd crank but there was heaps of other cool stuff out back in the day around the same time.

I got the full group but running them with White Industries X Sugino cranks. The shifters & canti in the XC Pro line up are ace!

Been chasing one of these SR MTS100 set ups if anyone has anything.

I have the 22.2 SR MTB 200 bars, matching stem is for a non standard steerer size and is being used. They have like a 9 degree back sweep with no rise, very wide for old bars, steel, heavy as shit but cool and more similar to a modern bar than anything produced through the 90s. Yours for postage if you want them.

That’d be ace dude. The riser ones in my photo were also supplied with this stem and made by Nitto.

Found a dude in Melbourne with both the stem and bars, but I’m having a hard time trying to organise it all.

I’ll take those bars though! Heavy is not a concern.

I got a copy Kalloy stem, same as the SR lined up in Brisbane with bars, but i think the bars might be a touch to high with the rise.

Those steel bars should be good, about the same as my bullmoose style bars which i was running.

I will send PM.

oh man. rec.bicycles.*

I didn’t get on those until maybe 1998.
