Shoesies - MTB. Need input

Giro and mavic both make high volume / wide versions in most of their shoes. But their standard fit is quite narrow.

Little update on my search, popped into Humanpowered and they have nothing at all that fits me. The quest continues.
I might pop into my mountain and check them out. Will hunt down a shimano seller as I want to try them out.

nothing fitted because too big/too wide, or too small/too narrow?

Sorry, They only had 3 styles of shoe (all DZR) and they are nearly all out of stock so only sizes that are big or small for me. Didn’t even get to try anything on. They are not really what I want anyway.

Last time I went into MM they only had Bonty shoes in my size which weren’t a good fit for me. I’d see what Cecil Walker has too. They usually have a good range and a number of brands. Also worth checking out the Melbourne Bicycle Centre in Clifton Hill… and Fitz Rev. Cast a wide net.

Good to know. Tried bounty on an galeria. Will make a list and find suppliers and tick them off.

going to fitzroy and hitting the nexus of shops there is the best way of trying on as many different brands/styles** as possible. in a relatively small area you have avanti plus (giro/scott), fitz rev (specialized/mavic), cecil walker (shimano/sidi), cell bikes (shimano), 99 bikes (northwave) and melbourne bike centre (a few other brands).

thats quite a the array of options and you are very likely to find something that fits and is in your budget.

give yourself a couple of hours and take your time. be nice to the staff and you might even get a sweet deal.

** might not be a complete list of brands stocked in each store

Hi guys, did the Fitzroy area search as suggested and tried on more stuff. Mostly narrow for me. Still liking specialised but/ Want to hit up a shimano joint AGAIN. Thanks for all the input.

Diadora do some ok cycling shoes… Diadora Shoes - Cycle | Chain Reaction Cycles

There used to be a Diadora discount store near me which closed and they had some nice, well discounted, mtb shoes. There’s one in Fairlfield apparently, that might be worth a look.

so was there a result?

Bit late, but I really rate the Chrome offerings for commuter shoes.

If they made a Pro version of the SouthsideI’d be all over it.

I spent all my money on a crosscheck. Will get some later this month when I get paid. Pretty sure they will be specialized or Shimano. Not sure on the model yet.

Just reviving this as im obviously looking for some now

Will be purely for mtb, (not commuting etc) budget im gonna say $50-$100.

Currently have DMR V6s on the dale, but will end up with some m520s most likely

Have my eye on those Teva Pilots from pushys, seems like good value for $60

anything else i should consider? normal foot, not super wide or super thin.

Chasing a EU42-42.5 if anyone has anything they no longer need.

I had Five tens on the DMR V6 which I used for DH - never had a problem with them slipping. Just watch out for your shins as those V6’s will tear them up if you slip.

cheers ezy, should make it a diff the type of ‘mtbing’ im doing?

ie im thinking more XC/trail stuff rather then DH/Jumps etc ?

Better value.

If you are doing more XC stuff - I strongly recommend you go for SPDs.

EDIT: Sorry, just a quick question. Those Teva shoes… are they SPD compatible?

cheers pete, will see what i can find!

these are the tevas from pushys, might be good inbetweener

Another option - I have these for general commuting duties during the warmer months. The mesh at the toe area lets the cold air in way too easy.

Ribble was cheapest I could find for 540s last week but I needed some other stuff so got over the free postage
