What gauge spokes on your tandem front wheel Blakeyplz? 80?
Righto! Workshop’s finally up! It’s bloody brilliant. I just need the sparky to come and wire it up before I can move in (and it needs to be connected up to the stormwater).
I’m now thinking about the floor. Do I leave it? Paint it? My leading idea is to lay recycled rubber mats down on it. They’d make a nice working surface and they’d protect the cheapish particle board floor as it is. It’d wear better than painting it too.
Anyone got any insightful comments about workshop flooring?
Rubber matting! if you damage a portion its easier to replace then ripping up the floor.
Very envious!
Rubber mats. Especially if you’re clumsy like me and drop stuff.
That sir, is awesome.
Anti fatigue rubber mats for sure.
Next bike workshop x bbq collab is at your house.
Damn Peter, you didnt mention this was what your “shed” was going to look like!
that’s a small house…
x2. Looks ace
Studded rubber flooring. But that’s the architect in me and every time I look up the studded rubber I think of condoms.
Fantastic.
Anyone able to give me any leads on getting a 1200mm x 900mm alignment table made? Steel table with a blanchard ground surface. I’ve tried the google but I’m coming to dead ends, probs cos I don’t know who I’m looking for.
Kumo?!^ I know that they can be bloody exspensive and they are generally heavy and will need a truck and lots of hands to move in!
Your in for a long wait… Most that come up have been used a work benches and are Fkd… Keep an eye on gumtree… Also check with you local machine shops
Serious question how far out could a thick marble bench or reconstitute stone bench be? Surely with in a 1mm or two max?
Not too far out. Many hobby builders use MDF which is surprisingly flat.
I’m still looking for a proper table, using a synthetic marble slab at the moment.
You can also look into pouring an epoxy surface table
Granite would be awesome, and is possible with a bit of research into direct import from China. Epoxy looks totally awesome and might be a goer. Heat may be a problem with it though.
The line I want to exhaust is a blanchard ground steel plate supported on a table. I was coming up against some dead ends, but a guy called back today and is going to quote on one. I wonder how much I’m in for! If it’s too much, I wonder if they could still make the table and I can go the epoxy route.
Almost got the downstairs flat set-up, just needs a little couch, and maybe a bigger tv for watching Friday night footy whilst brewing beer…
Brewing fridge, with kitchen just to the right for brewing.

Drum kit in the corner…

Well after scoring some new equipment at an auction it was time to overhaul and reorganize the workshop
Before…
After!
The theme song for this new set up is “everything in its right place” by radiohead
And of course the workshop assistant
Nice Keith!
On the workshop table idea, I helped a guy out years ago who had built a very sturdy steel frame table base. I then screwed 16mm FC sheeting down to it, welded on some 4mm flat bar around the sides and then poured ardit or self levelling floor compound over the whole table @ 15mm thick. Cost a pretty penny in ardit at $40/bag but ended up being super smooth and level. Also withstands quite a bit of abuse and heat too.
Just an idea if any of you have any builder/handyman type mates that can help you.
