54.526 rather.
Faded a bit at the end. Very impressive time, though short of expectations that he himself set.
Hopefully the result is enough to keep the challenges coming. I like to think Tony Martin is looking at this and believes he can snatch it - and other riders too.
Maybe I don’t read enough sports writing… But the hype and hyperbole in the Guardian coverage is so over the top it’s hilarious:http://www.theguardian.com/sport/live/2015/jun/07/bradley-wiggins-bids-to-break-the-hour-record-live
My babby is the best alarm clock when it comes to cycling races - he always wakes me up for his feed when there is exactly 15 minutes to go of a stage/event.
The pace/WR ticker had me confused. Glad to see Wiggins got it done, and by a considerable margin. This is definitely within Tony Martin’s reach. ( I have nothing to base that statement on but hope)
“Right then, that’s that. Bradley Wiggins is superhuman, we knew that, but it turns out that actually, he’s even superer than we thought. He has absolutely pasted Alex Dowsett’s world record, but what’s almost as startling is how quickly he recovered. What a man.”
Wow, that’s intense.
I don’t know 54.26 is amazing and about 8 laps more than Rohan Dennis but I heard all this smack about him going over 55 easy and closer to 58 and he didn’t want to just break it but put it so far up on the mantle people will never bother having a go for years.
Oh well, thought he had 55 in the bag.
Bring on Tony.
I’d like to see him do it too, and surely you can base that on his world TT rainbow jersey collection if nothing else. Just depends if a) his team will give him the time off to work for it b) he actually wants to do it.
Has Tony Martin ridden track to the extent Wiggins has? No.
I’m not sure it’s as beatable as you think.
Yes it might last until Eddie J is ready for a crack
Shaving was a mistake.
No over shoes = #profail
Not track legal?
maybe not, dowsett didn’t wear them either
The air pressure was all wrong
We are armchair professionals just doing our job throws bag of crisps
Yep. Had a chat to him last night for a bit, he said 54.250 was the minimum he wanted to do. Also said he’s definitely not doing it again.
#bragpost
^ What, you sell him a jersey and now you’re best mates?
He got me and the missus some passes and we were watching from the middle of the track :o

Collins, who helped coach Dowsett during his preparation for the event, claimed in an interview with BBC Radio Essex that the Pinarello Bolide HR Wiggins used for the even went against the regulations. “One of the sad bits about it was that Bradley’s bike wasn’t in production,” he told the radio station.
“For attempts like that it should all be production available so you can buy it off the shelf. You can’t get 3D-printed handlebars moulded to your own arms to make it easier for your own attempt.”
Wiggins’ bike was developed by Pinarello and motor company Jaguar, as was the case with their recent Dogma K8-S, and is modelled on the Bolide time trial frame.
Article 1.3.007 of the UCI regulations state that a bike “designed especially for the attainment of a particular performance (record or other) shall be not authorised.” According to the UCI’s rules, the bike must become commercially available within nine months of Wiggins’ attempt. Although that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to purchase it at your local bike shop.[/i]
