The Sleater-Kinney Appreciation Thread

Brian Phillips is a rad writer and wrote about sleater-kinney and i found it interesting even though i’ve never heard them

Solved that one by only listening to one song then will wait for the vinyl…

If you can’t fix the amp, holla at me.

So what are we thinking of the new album? I’m loving it, which is no surprise, but I’m impressed they can take such a long time off and produce such a quality album which covers new ground while still unmistakably Sleater-Kinney.

I thought it was going to be darker, I don’t know why, maybe because of the dead flowers cover art and Bury Your Friends as the first release, but I’m happy there’s still those S-K rocky pop tracks that hark back to All Hands. Corin’s voice is better than ever and the ‘almost the same, but not quite’ tick tack between guitars and vocals is so entertaining.

Favourites are Fangless, The Fog & Filthy Air and A New Wave at the moment, but it’s all good. Can’t wait for an 'Straya tour.

I found myself at the record shop the other day hoping to score a vinyl copy, but they were sold out.

As for a 'straya tour, yes, but please stop in Canberra.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Day made

Introduced my girls to SK a few weeks back. They’re gonna go mad for this clip!

Planning on showing this to the kids tonight too. They’re gonna love it, just like me.

Just cracking this thread open for S-K 'Strayan concert banter.

Anyone attend the Perf show? https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/entertainment/a/31003185/sleater-kinney-turn-on-the-best-gig-of-piaf-2016/

Sounds like they’re mixing in plenty of old with the new, which is great.

I’m excited.

Edit: Thanks to Mr Cee for this article - http://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/feb/26/we-insulated-ourselves-carrie-brownstein-on-australias-defining-role-in-the-sound-of-sleater-kinney

GF is going to see them on Sunday. I always miss out on cool stuff. She saw The BJM without me when they played recently as well :frowning:

^ Looks like there’s tix still available for that show. Probably should have organized a weekend up in Sydney, S-K at the Opera House would be kinda nuts.

Nobody wants to play?

I had a great time last night, excellent set and choice of songs with a few surprises. Entertain, Step Aside and New Wave were probably my faves, but it was all good. The encore was a bit odd ending with Modern Girl, but oh well.

Minor criticism; at the end of a world tour there were moments the band looked a bit over it, Corin more so than Carrie, but I can hardly blame them for that, and it was just a few odd moments, no biggie.

Feel lucky to have seen them play again and looking forward to see what they do next.

Very jealous. They apparently were excellent. Got stuck at work till the evening, so wouldn’t have been able to make it anyway. GF sent me lots of pics to rub it in :frowning:

^ Ask your missus what Carrie was talking about in the picture where she’s sitting on the stage. The Melbourne show was pretty much banter free.

I went on Wednesday night and there was no chat there either, I was pretty disappointed

Apparently she was singing. As to which song, the missus doesn’t remember (may or may not have been a bit drunk).

I’ve been reading Robert Forster’s book and just got informed SK were the backing band for the Go Betweens reformation album.

Dig Me Out turns 20 today!

Edit: actually not today but a couple of days ago…oh well, better late than never.

Good dig!
