Road. I stuffed up the first time.
choice, thanks.
the v-brake inserts for me
uh-oh, just ordered the brakes and the road inserts. I’ll see how it goes.
When did you get your brakes McKenny? I got mine about this time last year.
Apparently they come with shorter pads now which is what I’ve got. I haven’t actually swapped out my pads yet because I hardly ever ride that bike but they look right and Nikcee ordered them for me so they must be.
i’ve ordered a few sets now. some were last year, some more earlier this year. I didn’t notice any difference in length though.
I’ve got the cr720’s with the road inserts and the salmon coloured kool stops.
Next set will be avid shorty ultimates.
Yeah, that’d be nice. Apparently they can be set up wide profile or short?
Yeah - you can change the ultimates between wide and narrow depending on the conditions.
The reviews I have read say the stopping power is up there with road calipers.
truth… in both cases
i’ve actually de-powered my front ultimate as the combination of the brake and some KS salmons was causing issues. a little slackening of the angles and some DA pads and its all good in the hood.
however i can no longer do sick endos on command.
mckenny - the current cr720s come with road style pads. you might have gotten old stock… the upgrade to KS salmons (or even Swisstop blacks) is mandatory if you want to avoid the ‘death grip’.
if you sniff around you can find KS pads for cheap…
Got my CR720’s on Friday. The road style kool-stops fit. Brakes are easy and quick to install/setup and work better then my old cantis which are smooth post style wide angle ones.
Having vertical and toe in adjustment of the pads is great.
Campagnolo have released their own cantis now and I just saw that CRC are expecting Ultegra cantis in early next year.
What’s going on with this?
both companies have released their own CX groupsets, inclusive in this is cantis. i havent seen any Pro riders on the campy ones yet, but the shimano ones have popped up around the races.
Has anyone use the Cane Creek SCX-5 cantis? Sets are very cheap on CRC at the moment.
Otherwise it’ll probably be Tektro CR720s.
What groupset you running?
As Nik says every manufacturer offers cantis now therefore you must do the following:
Campagnolo groupset-> run campag cantis
Shimano groupset-> run Shimano CX cantis
SRAM-> run Avids
Any groupset-> TRP’s are allowed
Campy is the plan and these are pretty.

From the internets:
The brake pads are adjustable and the distance between breaking pads ranges from 20 mm to 35 mm, which makes it possible to use tires ranging from 19 to 35mm and rims from 19 to 22mm. Cable tension adjustment is fast and precise using a wheel system.
What is this ‘wheel system’ that is referred to?
Is this the said wheel system ??

Adjustable on the DS side of the straddle cable?
Sorry, vagued out and thought I was looking at a fork.
What would he know?
enough atmo.
